  • Damon Hypersport is '200' shades of all-electric awesomeness

Canadian electric motorcycle manufacturer, Damon Motorcycles, recently unveiled their all-electric superbike which is already being touted as the world's safest and smartest motorcycle. The Damon Hypersport, as it is called, boasts of 200 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque from its electric drivetrain. In addition to those more than respectable numbers, it is also laden with tech and some pretty nifty features. The potential of the motorcycle is apparent from the accolades that it has received including winning the CES 2020 Innovation Award.

200 is a number that Damon Motorcycles is probably very fond of as the Hypersport has a top speed of 200 mph (322 km/h) and a range of 200 miles (322 km) on the highways in addition to the 200 bhp of power and 200 Nm of torque. In the city, where the riding is a little less 'crazy', the motorcycle offers a range of 483 km which is insane considering the amount of power that the motorcycle boasts of. The power comes from 20 kWh liquid-cooled battery pack and the Damon Hypersport can also sprint from 0-100 km/h in under 3 seconds.

While the numbers make this motorcycle a handful, there's something more that makes it one of the most innovative motorcycles ever made. Ergonomics can be a bit of a problem when it comes to these kinds of motorcycles. The extreme riding position of these motorcycles can make them really difficult to ride but the Damon Hypersport has a nifty trick to deal with that. The riding position can be electronically adjusted and that too... on the go! The handlebars and footpegs can be adjusted electronically and the rider can opt for a sporty or a comfortable riding position.

Another cool feature of the motorcycle is the CoPilot system. It is a 360-degree safety net for the rider and the system can predict hazards and accident using the plethora of sensors on the motorcycle. The system is capable of tracking the speed, direction, velocity of numerous objects surrounding the motorcycle and uses complex algorithms to predict hazards based on those parameters. The rider is warned via the means of LEDs, haptic alerts and through the rearview mirror.

Damon Motorcycles have also revealed the price of the Hypersport. As a special edition run, the first 25 units of the Damon Hypersport will get Brembo Brakes, Ohlins Suspension and a single-sided carbon fibre swingarm. It is priced at $40,000. The following base variants will be priced at $24,995.
