Default Honda Motorcycles gets cracking on bike project

    Guys check this out

    http://www.cybersteering.com/news.asp?id=n5744

Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd has started the groundwork for manufacturing motorcycles, which will be launched in the second half of next year.

Company sources said the feasibility study has been completed and Honda has already identified the products which will be manufactured at its Manesar (Gurgaon) plant.

Currently, the assembly shop as well as vendors are being geared up for the project. “[u]There will no clash of models with Hero Honda. We will consciously keep our range different from theirs,” the executive said, without going into details.

Hero Honda is a joint venture between Honda and the Munjal family, which manufactures only motorcycles. The two companies have a no-compete agreement which expires in June next year.

Looks to me that we will either have some sub 90cc bike or 230+cc bikes from honda in a year. Thats the only way honda models will not clash with hh models []

I think they will go in for the former options. Coz a manufacturings setup is feasible only if they can have economies of scale. This will be dificult to meet of they bring in Large capacity (250 CC +) bikes. Large capacity bikes are best brought in by the CBU Route. If they price a 250 CC bike agressively (near the Bullet) only then can they expect to make decent numbers.

My feeling is that they will bring in more work horse kind of City bikes like the Street and other step thrus. Only in that way can they not compete directly with HH.

Nope Gliff, the bike is actually a 250cc in-line-twin, and though they have got the news just now, the testing has started long back.

Anyone got any contacts in ARAI ? If yes, make use of ur contacts and u can see the bike, sad that I don;t have any direct contacts, but try hard to get a glimpse of the bike through a friend's contact.
