Default THE NAKED MONSTER - Yamaha FZ1

Udaipur to Ahmedabad (via Gandhinagar) [my first time on the YAMAHAs NAKED MONSTER FZ-1]

Today was the day I was waiting for since the time I was selected for this GIR, why? Alright first let me give you a brief. I am a big Yamaha Fan, I own two of the Best Yamaha machines in India - RX100 (1987 model) and YZF R15 (2010 model). I fear riding the R6 (dont know why) and amongst the naked Yamahas, used to fear the FZ1(now I know why ). I know that these big bikes need a LOT of respect, you cannot just pick it up and go for a ride. You have to have a POA (plan of action) for every move on these big bikes. And these 2 bikes (R6 & FZ1) were internationally known for their Devilish capabilities.

In the morning while getting ready to leave Udaipur, I was handed over the keys of FZ1 to ride to Ahmedabad. I have ridden many big bikes but never on the highway and that too for 260kms. Well, when the key was handed over to me I was overjoyed and wanted to jump with happiness but at the same time, I was scared. I silently glanced at FZ1 and exchanged few words with her before saddling up for the ride.

The FZ1 started and a thrill went up my pine as the powerful 1000cc came to lifeman the sound of the engine itself makes you feel the enormous power of this bike. Ok Lets ride safe and lets ride long thats what I said to the FZ1 and started riding. Very consciously I was keeping control on the throttle and changing gears and maintaining a good distance from my fellow riders as I started cruising. As soon as we touched the highway, I just twisted the throttle to see what this Monster can do.. wooooooooo !!! this was pulling like a mad bull eager to break free. The twisties enroute to Ahmedabad are mouth watering, but the FZ1 and me needed a bit more time to sync with each other and understand each other behavioral pattern. So I decided to go slow, I took these turns in beginning at around 70kmph and gradually increased it after some time. In the last 100 odd kms, I was getting in sync with the bike and the speeds became more interesting. And it was a dream come true.

The FZ1 is oh! so very flickable and so very practical. The power of these bikes insane, and one has to get used to it or know how to ride it. It is one machine which is definitely fast, and demands a lot of respect. On the twisties she was perfectly planted on the road with no sign of any surprises. After riding her for 260kms in which the last 60kms was in city traffic, I found it very a comfortable bike. I felt the stretch should have been atleast 500kms to know what effects it has on rider. While in the city one has to be extra careful with the random rider/drivers who come in front of you out of nowhere. As it is the general public doesnt realize the power of these humongous bikes. But till the time we reached Ahmedabad I already had a good understanding of the bike and hence it was another comfortable ride to the parking. In the parking of the Hotel, I thanked the bike for letting me ride her and then we both getting to our destination all safe and fine. Valentino does have something in the way he kneels before his bike before the ride. The next time I ride this one, Ill do that too I guess!

Good write up Shivanshu, I can very well relate with your feelings as I similar thoughts in my mind when I first rode the 'big' bike during the Castrol Passion Hunt in 2009.

Many more to come, Ride on
