Default My 2015 Harley Davidson Superlow comes home

The itch for a bigger displacement engine motorcycle was always there since many years. This itch would translate into something as Legendary as Harley Davidson; nopes did not imagine that in my wildest of imagination. So here is my story:
I have owned an Enfield for 11 years now and have always loved motorcycles of similar nature. Sport bikes are not my type so to say. The relaxed cruising style is what I prefer. I have always admired Harley Davidson as a brand and aspired to have one but had never been up close with one until Auto Expo2014. The only section of the Auto Expo that gave me Goosebumps was the Harley Davidson Stall/section. A live band performing Aerosmiths Sweet Emotion which really set the stage for me and my wife. We did see the Street 750 and various customization avatars of it. It did look good and affordable as well. But post the launch of Street 750 and the hoopla about its exposed wiring, plastic quality, and engine roar read on various forums and You Tube videos decided against it.
So Auto Expo sowed the seeds of thought of owning Harley Davidson. Then came July2014 and I thought of going in for a test ride to the dealer. I had made my mind that I will only go for a test ride for Superlow since I really loved the stance, seating position, subtle presence etc etc.

    Test Ride Experience:
I requested for a Test ride through the HD website, got a call regarding the confirmation and agreed to go there on 26th July2014. Well, it was a brand new dealership in Gurgaon, greeted by the sales rep whom I spoke to. Ogled at pretty much all the motorbikes on display and took photographs. Looked at the Superlow, sat on it felt divine. The one on display had a Sundowner seat; damn comfortable and loads of customizations; very pleasing to the eyes.

Ok so the paperwork done for the test ride and I was all set with a Modular Helmet, Leather jacket and the Superlow. Sales rep in front of me on a Sportster 48 and I was behind. I put the first gear in place and by this time was aware about the loud clank of the gear. The most impressive part about the engine is the way this thing pulls in stock condition. Really was an addictive torque blast!!

The distance covered was not more than 4-5 kms I guess; inner soul was screaming for more but had to be content with it without showing much disappointment. Me and wife were thinking of booking it then and there but something told me to hold on to my horses. We went back home pretty shaken and Torquefied.

    Booking:
After a lot of youtubing, forum reading decided to go ahead with booking the Superlow. Chose a pretty apt day Independence Day, 15th Aug2014. Spoke to the sales rep I was dealing with and booked it. The dealership was closed but the guy came close to my residence at a Shopping Mall to take the booking. So the first hurdle was met. The sales guy reminded me of the waiting period again. I was mentally prepared to wait for 6-8 months; easier said than done.
Now that the booking was done, I was in the waiting period which was really long. But as they say the long wait was worth.

    Delivery Day:
So 12th Jan2015 it was D day for me. Could not sleep all night. The finance was done and I got a go ahead from bank official regarding delivery. I was ready to push off along with my wife and brother in law. Had asked the Sales guy about the accessories I wanted to be installed a day before. We were at the dealership at 2 pm, met the sales guy and informed him that we are here with grin on my face. I had decided to install the engine guard, rear passenger foot pegs, rear passenger seat and asked him not to install the backrest in advance since I wanted to check out the one that looks good and is comfortable for my wife. I sat with the representative who deals with accessories and chose the backrest that was a detachable one; wanted to have one that I could remove when I do not need. Chose the one and we were all set.
    Paper work done
    Payment for accessories done
    PDI by HD folks done
A small demo regarding the switchgear and ride given by the sales guy and I noticed that the suspension was set at the default/softest setting. I requested them to make it stiffer since I would be riding with my wife; they gleefully made it to the 3rd adjustment setting.
Lastly, a cake cutting ceremony was conducted by dealer which I appreciate and all set to ride back home.

Congratulations . she is a damsel with dynamite.
Take it real easy for first 200km . keep it under 100, avoid running too slow in higher gear. Post that you can start to spread wings a bit.

Thank you Dushyant bhai, I am trying hard to keep it at 80kph. Did breach 100kph twice and 120kph once. Already covered 200kms on odo.
Gosh this thing has oodles of torque. Tell me something: what are the consequences of riding half clutch occassionaly? I did that quite often on my bullet though.

GC is an issue with pillion rider, without a pillion it is manageable to an extent. I got the suspension setting to 3 and feel the ride is harsh with pillion, I am hoping that to improve and I much more kms.

And I am experiencing some hand fatigue on the right hand strangely and not that much on the left hand. Guess need to buy some gloves.

Bro only one hand getting tired is classic symptom of rear wheel misalignment. If rear wheel is tracking slightly towards left, hand needs to creates constant pressure on right side handle bar to go straight. This can be so little to go un noticed.
You can get a feel if this is a valid case in ur bike by riding with one hand on bars. Ride a few kms with just right hand and then a few with only left hand. You will get a feel. Come to me if you find this is the case.

In case of riding half Clutch , In case of traffic , one has no choice but to ride on half clutch . The only precaution I take is Not tend to accelerate under Half clutch. I use it Only to get going or Crawl in traffic. if one needs to accelerate , let the clutch engage fully . But since you have been riding Bull regularly and not returning to biking after a long gap , I am sure you already know it. Nothing special needed , ride as you normally do.
Infact I would suggest some changes to Gear shift pattern. Most bikers get a feel of when to up shift , By nature/feel/rpm/sound etc. Once you get over with First service , start Ignoring the Urge to upshift , take the bike beyond your normal urge onset. Dont worry , Sportsters rev safely to 7000rpm , factory limiter is set at 6000revs. sfifting somewhere around 4.5k-5k is sweet spot for fun. And trust me currently you would be upshifting even before 3k.
You will notice the Fun factor multiply .

I recently changed the the clutch plates at around 20000km , And by the looks of it they had plenty of life left. They might go for another 20k quite easily. Holding onto them for Future Use.

    @dushyant Bhai
Ok so the fatigue I was referring to was mostly on my right wrist and not hand, was a typo Sorry about the misinterpretation.
I tried riding with one hand on bars, then no both hands not on bars to see if the bike is misaligned; thankfully nothing of that sort. So I would say the fatigue was due to the difference in power from Bull to Harley; it is a hell of a difference.
It has been a week of riding my Harley on short distances only 60-70 Kms on great tarmac and am sticking to changing gears around 2500-3000 rpm. Wow I can imagine the fun shifting gears at 4500-5000rpm; will try that of course after first service.
As far as using half clutch I will try not to accelerate too much without engaging a lower gear. Thanks for your inputs as always

Its wrist then! probably only a getting used to thing. If its forearm or entire arm thats getting tired, it usually is a busted rear wheel wheel bearing or misalignment.
Good to know the bike tracks straight without hands on bars.
I could not get what you implied by \"I will try to accelerate too much without engaging a lower gear\"
Moreover I am Shifting to NCR next month as I am changing job(moving to honda cars) , Hope to chatch up soon.

It was a typo, have edited my previous post. So you are moving in to NCR, wow that good. Many congratulations for getting into Honda. We will catch up for sure, I hope you will bring in your \'Sporty\' along or once you get settled here.
