    Default Triumph In India?

There was this small stall in the auto expo dedicated to Triumph.

I've recently started leaning more towards nakeds, especially since I doubt I'll ever have the balls to hit 150kmph+ speeds on a bike, or feel comfortable on a faired bick owing to my slightly weak back! Of course, the fact that they look smashing has a bit to do with that change of the sniper scope!

Coming to the topic - was there any news of Triumph releasing their super sweet Speed Triple? I think a rocket III or a bonneville was on display at the expo.

MG/Ken - does anyone remember what the scene with Triumph was?

It would be awesome if they could bring something like the Triple here.
I googled up and found up a couple of links. Hope they are of some interest:

    Triumph ready for India ride

Bajaj planning to buy equity in Triumph:

India's Bajaj Auto targets Triumph as takeover target - report - Forbes.com

They plan to import the bikes as CBUs. So we can have them at around double their European/American prices.

Peter Huckin was the gentleman I had talked to from Triumph. From what I remember, he was looking after marketing for Triumph in the Asia-Pacific region, but I may be mistaken but not by much. He gave quite a bit of his time to talk to me.

    Peter Huckin.

He made it clear to me that Triumph's presence in the Auto Expo was not facetious in nature. They were here after hearing Yamaha's entry and were seriously looking at the possibilities offered by the market, the nature of it's maturity and how far could they tread.

He did not however divulge any thoughts about which bike were they thinking of launching since at that moment, (16th January) they were not thinking of launching anything but just studying the prospects and gauging the feedback and interest of the visitors. He was not aware of the strict ARAI homologation regulations which made Yamaha bring out the R1 with a sari guard at the rear and a number plate in front.

They had displayed just one bike at their stand which we all know what it could be and what it was...

I contacted Peter Huckin a few weeks later and he just thanked me for exposing the interview and their stand and showing it to a larger audience.

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Even if it gets launched.... it would be another added eye candy for us... not sure when our number comes... Even if it gets launched it would be no where less than 15 laks on any given model.

what gets launched? The rocket III?

If the speed/street triple gets launched(the ones i'm really eyeing, especially the street), then the street should be a lakh or so lower than the grey market faired 600s, and the speed triple should be about 2 lakhs or so lower than the official R1. A pity fi the street doesnt get launched - it's a great power package, and the daytona engine(albiet with a different state of tune for more midrange) and chassis can definitely NOT hurt! My choice this one would be.

You seem all for the Speed Triple. I do not mind at all. I would be strongly inclined as well towards, this, if... if you take off a few CCs, shave off about 40 odd Bhp, reduce weight by 20kilos, and bring down the price by another 2L to about 7L odd or even less, you get the drift... then I am game!

@ken - and that brings us to.... the street triple :-) it's the naked version of the daytona 675! and it's got those sexard speed triple looks with a sports chassis, sports engine tuned for the street, comfy seating position, and light weight! sexyness!

the speed is a bit too much if you ask me. Which is why i guess it's a hooligan's favorite - short wheelbase + crazy power = wheelies at will!!!
