    Default First solo trip

Finally the fateful day had come when I would be starting my first solo trip. It was 5 am and I was not feeling very positive about this SOLO trip, basically I was hit scared, but I said to myself what the heck lets do it. Thus I started at 6 am towards panvel with a million questions still bogling my mind how will I navigate, what if tyre gets punctured, what will I do there alone etc., reached the mcd and stopped for a smoke hoping to meet someone.

After having the much needed morning coffee and smoke I started out and took the NH4 instead of the uran road which I regretted as even at 7 in the morning it was crowded. I had studied the road map to alibag a lot of times and I clearly remembered that I had to take a right turn towards NH17 where the roads meet to form a triangle kind of shape and thus came my first mistake. Couldn’t recognize the triangular form and went forward waiting for the right turn until I reached a toll naka where I felt “beta kuch gadbad hai”. Here I would like to thank the person who invented gps coz he only helped me get back on track. So now I was riding back thinking where did I missed the triangle where I made the second mistake, took the off-ramp to Mumbai-pune expressway instead of the NH4 overbridge and I was opened to a world of all tarmac 4 lane butter smooth highway with nil traffic (dream come true right) so I started ripping hoping to get to the opposite road after a few kms but….;so I kept riding and after the first tunnel I saw a office kind of thing where the gate was open on the other side and closed on my side. Stopped the bike ran towards the office opened the gate and went thru to the opp. Direction. I was so excited to have corrected my mistake that I started redling the bike on all gears ,after a few gears I took a look at the speedo and I was doing 110 and my tacho was at 10.5 k(much above the redline of 9k)thought something was wrong so I clutched and voila found another gear then ripped at 127 for the full length till I again reached the NH4. There on I regularly stopped and checked my gps till I got to NH17. After confirming that I was on the right track and it was just a straight road ahead I stopped refitted my headphone ,which I had removed after the toll naka, started the music and rode till I reached alibaug.

After reaching alibag removed the PPEs and sat down for a while, went in to a restaurant had puri bhaji(worst puri bhaji ever). There was a fort in the middle of the sea to which people were going on foot crossing the sea as it was low tide but I couldn’t as I had the helmet the jacket to carry. After a while I thought wats the point if u come so close and don’t visit the fort, left the helmet on the bike wore the jacket tied the shoes to the waist belt, hired a horse cart ride to the fort. By the time I decided to go to the fort it was already high tide and the horses were having a hard time pulling the cart. The horse guy dropped me at the fort and went back as there were few horse carts waiting. Entered the fort, did some photography and came back out and WTF no carts nothing, just me and a couple waiting to be rescued, don’t know what got into there mind but they removed there shoes dragged there pants up and started the 700 mtr journey through chest-deep waters towards alibag. I know I couldn’t do it so I waited and after 15 mins a motorboat came carrying a family, dropped them and agreed to take me back for 50 bucks. Now as I was the lone passenger he asked me to sit on the left side and he sat on the right to balance the weight, I said where should I keep the jacket as it weighs around 3-4 kgs, he gave me a weird look and lifted the jacket and I could see the surprise on his face, next followed lineup of questions whats in it what is this for what is that for etc…

The heat was taking its toll on me and I was very thirsty went to the nearby nariyal paani walas and gulped down 2 large nariyal paanis. Then a barf ka gola a smoke, little drying up under the shade enjoying the beach winds and off to kihim. Kihim is a small village north of alibaug which I was expecting to be clean quiet and serene but to my surprise it had all the elements of a bad dirty beach. Anyways sat there for around an hour having omelet pav, nariyal paani, malayi etc.. Did some photography and went in a nearby dhaba kind of restaurant for lunch, had delicious chicken curry and two plates rice.

Thereafter started my journey towards rewas at 2 pm. I had thought of catching a ferry from rewas dock to mazgaon dock but wasn’t sure that bikes will be taken or not. So for the whole 12 kms of state highway journey I was in full tension, it was already late to ride the whole 120+ km journey. But luckily bikes were allowed and the ferry ride was one of my best experiences. Slowly the ferry started pacing at 11 km/hr while I was enjoying the winds, feeding sea gulls flying by us. Took a total of 2hrs to reach the mazgaon dock and was back at home by 4:30pm.

All in all it was a very short ride, full of mistakes, but was a good first solo trip.

EDIT: Just finished reading it.. whoa.. so many mistakes in the beginning.. But hey..it's your first solo ride..and that's how it should be.. you learn a lot of things through such mistakes.. Am sure you must have enjoyed that expressway patch Glad that you didn't had any serious trouble.. Good Luck for next ride!
