Default My first bike trip - ECR Ride

I got my bike (Honda CB Unicorn Dazzler) delivered on June 11th and the date was July 3rd. Me and my friend Who owns a Unicorn, are at Maansarovar Honda, Velachery watching our steeds getting serviced. Mine was getting its first service. A wild idea sprang in up his mind and at once decided to head to Pondicherry, the next day. I was excited but was also worried, since my bike was brand new and had done only 532kms. Later decided to go for it.

So came the next day, a Sunday. Woke up at 5 am, took a cool bath and was preparing myself for the trip. Since it was my first ever one, I had no idea of what to do or what to take. Mind that I had not received my RC book yet. I had only the Invoice. But took up the challenge and prepared myself mentally and physically. Took some biscuits, a bottle of water, lemonade and I started.

Met my friend at Shollinganallur-ECR junction and off we went. I was still nervous for the fact that something might go wrong for my steed since it was brand new and also I did not have my Registration copy with me. In the event of a misfortune I might be in grave danger. Was riding down the east coast road towards Mahab and this was what was going through my mind the entire time. The road was still dark and was lit only by my steed's beam. The air was chill. Saw a disemboweled body of a stray dog on the way and it sent a shiver down my spine. I was continuously telling myself 'ALL IS WELL'. We reached view point and decided to halt to witness the sunrise. Parked my bike, Removed my lid and saw the mighty bay of bengal.

The beach was never before so beautiful. The sun was slowly rising from underwater, sending golden streaks all over the blue. Slowly, the sun god rose up and looked down on me. We made eye contact.
It settled all the adrenalin in me. For that moment, nothing was in my head. Absolutely nothing. What was once a pot filled with the juice of fear was now overflowing with curiosity and enthusiasm.

I closed my eyes trying to get back on my nerves and suddenly thunder struck. A volley of 10-12 creatures zoomed back on the road. It was only after a second or two I was able to realise that those creatures were called BIKES. All that we heard was ZOOooOM, VroooOOM, Phooom and all we saw was confused, misplaced air molecules scooping out dust on the side of the road. Never have I seen or heard so many Sbks roar at the back of me and I was bamboozled.

Took some cookies, had a sip of lemonade and off we started again. This time my mind was much clearer and sharp. MJ's smooth criminal in my ears were smoothing out my senses. Crossed Mahab and was heading towards Marakanam. The morning weather, glistening sun, clean ashpalt, humming of the engine, curious heart, all combined into a clean recipe of ECR riding. Gosh, we Chennai people are so blessed.

After about half an hour we decided to take another break. My heart was continuously pumping out joy juices and it had all settled in my bladder. Time to empty it.

Took time to check my steed's heath, gave her time to cool down and off we started again. Saw my odometer, trip meter, clock, speed, all increasing at a certain proportion, except the fuel gauge and milestones which decided to take the wrong route. I was not worried though. And then we crossed Mudhaliar Kuppam boat house and I signaled my friend that we stop and take a look at this place.

We went in and saw a bunch of people chatting in front of weird looking objects. It was only then I realised that those were BIKES and those were the creatures which disturbed me earlier at the view point. I was actually perplexed to see so many beauties parked in a bunch. My eyesight lost its co-ordination. I did not know which one to look at. But controlled my emotions and decided to take a look (drool) at each and everything closely. There was everything.
From CB400 to FZ1 to Fireblade. Spent about 15 minutes just staring at every little detail. The owners were very kind enough to let me and my friend to click some. Only some. They asked us to snap only those with TN registration and we obeyed. Here are some.

Later, we realised it was time for us to leave and we started again. Slowly the coast on our left vanished and the roads now were covered by greens on both sides.

Small villages appeared on both sides and cattle were warming up in the middle of the road. Braking every now and then, I nearly lost my patience. But it also provided me with halts to enquire to the locals the location of Alampara fort. We were really looking forward to it and finally saw the sign board pointing to the left. Entered it and it lead us to a narrow village road. It was so beautiful and the passersby were mostly fishermen. Finally arrived there. Secured our vehicles and headed into the dreaded fort. Really beautiful place. I was searching for pieces to fix the puzzles to visualize how it would have looked in its valour. Few pics.

We breezed off a bit on the shores and decided to start again. United with our respective steeds and zoomed off in a jiffy. Decided not to stop at any place other than Pondicherry itself. Rode continuously and effortlessly and reached Pondi. My first bike trip has reaped the fruit.

Headed straight to Auroville and enjoyed getting lost there. The woods were amazing. Some pics of it.

The return leg of our journey was an easy one and a fast one too. Stopped only once for police checking and reached Chennai by 4:15 pm.
I was from then, a biker.
PS: Sorry for the bad quality pics. My sister refused to give me her DSLR. Hence my mobile cam. Also, this is my first such write up. Comments, criticism and suggestions are welcome.

@Sirius, nice little first trip there with your Dazzler. The pics are cool for a mobile camera. The road you chose for you first ride, I love it. I drove a couple of times on that road and have been waiting to ride on it. Lets see when it will come.

BTW, with 532 kms on odo, at what speeds you cruised on the highway? I hope you did not cruise at constant speeds and varied the rpms frequently.

I was doing speeds 80+. Revved it upto 109 twice or thrice. Had no problems or whatsoever. Got an average of 50+. Ride was very comfortable. I really don't remember the return leg of this trip. I was half asleep. Thanx to the briyani I ate. Stopped only twice for police checks and nothing else.

    Dude!
When I looked at the Dazzler for the first time (in black), my reaction was "What an ugly bike!). But these pictures surely change that!
    The gold looks amazing!!!
    Congratulations on the bike!

BTW, I'm planning to buy one myself. Did you notice any discomfort (pain in the back/ wrists) on the long ride?
I read in a magazine that the Dazzler is not very comfortable on long rides.

I never had any problems or whatsoever. I was very fresh even after I reached home and went out for a ride again. Had a sore bum. That's all.
