Default Bangalore to Kudremukh via Mangalore

This has been definitely the best journey so far in this year. The trip has been so much exciting due to the nature of the roads included and the landscape we visited. The roads include the harsh ghat roads towards Mangalore and the awesome twists and turns through the kudremukh and kalasa mountains.

Initial plan consisted for 10 bikes with 12 members. But like every time people dropped when the actual date approached. The reasons where just the usual ones, like commitments, the usual "lot of work to finish". At last the people who loved biking than anything where ready to go. Finally we became a team of 5 people with 4 bikes. 2 R15's, 1 Karizma and 1 Unicorn. My friend Manu and Myself riding on R15 has been on such trips for last 6+ years, for us it was another exciting ride with lots of open roads. But the other 3 people where new and have never done more that 150 KM in a bike. They’re where some initial thoughts to cut down one more bikes and to accommodate one of my friends in my R15. But the experience riding with pillion in my R15 was never a wonderful experience so dropped that plan right away and asked him to stick to the unicorn.

The destination was Mangalore and we booked a resort upfront to have a destination when we reach there. It was a beachfront property.

We planned to start the journey on a Friday night (8-10-2010) but to my happiness i had my team outing planned on the same day. So i went in R15 to the team outing spot rather that going by bus (which is boring definitely). The team outing spot was at Bheemeshwari, so what i have planned is to go to Bheemeshwari and then once the team outing is finished go to HASSAN and wait for my friends there. And the plan was such a way that my friends will join me somewhere around 11 at night and then will start to Mangalore from there riding completely during night.

It was my fourth time to Bheemeshwari and the route was already familiar to me but on the way I joined my company bus and ride slowly enjoying the view. The climate was not so cold but was really good to ride. I stopped for a small halt on the way and spent some time with my friends by bus.

The best thing I always loved when travelling by bike is I can stop anytime I want to whatever place I want to.

Once I reached Bheemeshwari I tried my luck on the newly launched Adventure activies,

We had some really good time there

Even got a chance to click a nice snap of banana’s that the hotel people kept nearby our lunch table.

Once I done with my team there I started towards HASSAN to join with my friends coming from Bangalore. I wanted to try a new route from Bheemeshwari to HASSAN, so I went though a route which was from Mandya, Mysore. The road was through a set of villages and was a very small single line road.

My friends should only start from Bangalore by 8, so I have to reach Hassan by only 12 so that I don’t have to wait. So for the first time in life I became a fan of Cafe Coffee Day Outlets. After spending lot of time with my team at Bheemeshwari I was very much tired, so has to refresh myself, so went into a Coffee day outlet near Mandya, had some hot food and spent around 1 hour there. Then I carried on to HASSAN by a new route from MANDYA. When I started that journey I never expected it to be so much interesting. The road was through completely isolated villages and also had small jungle kind of terrain in-between. The ride through those roads even became better because it was night (somehow it was pitch black even though the time was 7). It was a fun ride till I got to HASSAN. On the way to Hassan I was thinking where should I halt and to my relief I again found a Cafe Coffee Day outlet. As these outlets are open 24 hours I was able to spent time till my friends reach there. I called my friends coming from Bangalore and informed that I am waiting at Coffee Day outlet. My friends finally reached there by night 1.30 ☺ and I was literally sleeping in one of the couch till they arrived. I had some strong Caf Mocha’s and double shots espresso in between to keep me fresh. Once my friends reached there we had a meal together at night 2’o clock and started towards Mangalore by 2.30 AM.

We never expected the Ghats roads to be good towards Mangalore, but to our irony the ghat roads where pathetic condition and to add to that due to heavy fog the visibility was very poor. Most of the places through the Ghat section there where no roads at all and we found bus’s and Trucks going at 50/60 KM/Hr. Imagine the people inside that. The bad roads forced us to take frequent stops and finally reached the foot of the Ghat section by 4 in the morning still some 20 Km of bad roads left. Finally we reached the resort we booked @ mangalore by 10.30 in the morning. It was one hell of a ride. Few shots one the way.

Few pics when we where at coffee day and also towards mangalore

Once we reached mangalore, we struggled a bit to find the place to stay, it was not so famous place. The place we planned to stay was called “Samudra Darshana”

It was an average place compared to the place we stayed in the past. It was just a regular two story-building house with beach in front. The actual fun began when we we went to the beach to have a refreshing bath. It was really clean and there was very little people around.

Few Pics in and around our resort

    We had some good time

    The resort we stayed

We also went to some nearby restaurant to try some Authentic Mangalore dishes.

The next day we started somewhere around 8 in the morning and started towards Bangalore via different route. The route we selected was through Kudremukh, Kalasa. It was slightly raining but the road was just awesome with lots and lots of twist and turns. I couldn’t take my SLR out to take photos due to the rain in most of the places but I did take few when he had stop at uphill.

We also stopped near a stream to have a short swim, the water was really icy cold and it was fun.

The rest of the ride was just awesome and as an icing on the cake we found an awesome Kerala restaurant with lots and lots of fish dishes. We just eat like we didn’t have food for 3 or 4 days. We continued our ride back to HASSAN and saw a big accident on the road. Passed that we continued to Bangalore and stopped at the same Coffee day and then came back to Bangalore by night 1. Overall it was a fun ride and we are planning one more ride around Chikkamangalore, Agumbe, Shimoga, Kudremukh again in December.
