Epilogue
Maharashtra is one place eluding me for quite some time. During the Monsoon I have always favoured riding to Kerala and this year I wanted to do something different. I wanted to ride to places I have not been to and there were not a lot of options in the South. I happened to stumble across a picture taken by a friend and fellow Xbhpian Manoj in Lavasa and it was decided that it was going to be Maharashtra this year in the Monsoon.
My bike was closing in on 40k kms and it was beginning to show signs of old age. The Zma engine had no issues but other parts like fibre and electrical needed some work. Spent two weekends getting the bike done and I was all ready to go a long ride across Maharashtra. I have to thank some people here and let me do it in the beginning before I forget, first my Manager Rudra for approving my leave without any fuss or issues, MG for planning this ride for me and then last but not the least Yuv and Manoj who accompanied me on the ride.
The night before the ride I was working and could not focus at work, I kept thinking about the ride and if I was forgetting something. Got permission from my manager to leave early so that I could catch some sleep for some time. On the way back home about 2 Kms from my house the bike stalls at the traffic signal. Seems normal and I push the self start and no response. This is when I got a feeling that something had gone wrong. Pushed the bike to the corner of the road and kick start it to life. The bike starts and I notice that the lights arent blinking and the fuel gauge and Speedo meter was malfunctioning. This is the last thing you would want before the ride which was to start in another 5-6 hrs. As i was riding home in a mental dilemma to ride or not tomorrow I find a mechanic and ask him about the problem. He states that it is an electrical problem (duh!!) and asked me to get the bike the next morning and advised me to not ride it till then as a drained battery could leave the battery kaput. I called up Yuv to keep him posted on what happened and on what to do.
Did we start as planned, or was there a delay to the ride on the first day itself. Stay tuned for more.
