Default Day trip Dasada - Mitha Ghoda a Le Bonneville

During Saturday's G2G some of the members were getting really eager for a ride, short trip was what was on everyone's mind. 2 Places were being discussed, Modhere Sun Temple or Dasada Wild Ass Sanctuary.

After some deliberation we finalized Dasada, though none of the riders had been there before yet everyone seemed to know about the route albeit not entirely, lot of stories about the place making rounds we had to go to confirm them. 10-12 Members agreed but we knew not everyone will make it or wake up early. Even before we dispersed we had 3 cancellations.

Morning I got 2 calls to wake me up, one from the regular culprit Krunal Bunty and the other from Shrey Gohil, though a lot of confusion went on as whether it was Shrey or Shreyansh and how they both came.

Picked up Krunal from his place around 5:30, then moved towards the regular meeting point Vastrapur Lake. On reaching there met Jaiveer (JV) and Souvik Basu, the 4 of us moved on to the Pump as I need some fuel.

Sharad joined in and had his share of fuel as well. Waited for a while then the road of the Bull was heard, with Shreyansh riding and Shrey pillion. The group had assembled yet waited for a few more minutes just in anticipation that someone else might just call up, but that was not to happen.

I took the lead on my P220 with Krunal as pillion, JV on his Rx100 tailing / sweeping the group, Souvik on his Modded Dazzler, Sharad on is not so bright eyed Apache RTR FI and The BULL made up the rest of the group.

Left from Ahmedabad around 6:30 with a plan to return back by noon but life and nature had different plans for us, things we were not fully prepared for.

Reached Sanand without much hassle passing Sarkhej on the way, after Sanand Krunal kept tapping my shoulder asking me to slow down, but with the road being under construction and either of the 2 sides being closed had to negotiate with heavy to very heavy traffic, stopping or slowing down did not seem very logical, pulled of for a some time but then realized something was wrong as non of the other bikes were in the RVM slowed down as much as I could and yet for another 10 Minutes not signs of any of the other bikes, eventually stopped at a Fuel Station and kept checking my Mobile to see if there was any call or message but non.

After some very anxious few minutes saw Sharad and then Souvik after a while saw the Bull and JV, we all pulled up and on inquiring came to know the Bull had developed a snag and was not able to pull fast, the initial diagnostics was that there must have been some water in the carb after the previous days Service at the ASC. Krunal got into action with a screw driver and in no time got the Bull running at full throttle again.

Stopped at a road side Restaurant on the Viramgam By-Pass and ordered some Idli and Wada for everyone, to our amusement saw a few Gujarati Serial actors sitting on the next table enjoying their breakfast and their Privacy, we thought of talking to them but then decided otherwise and left them with something they might cherish.

After the breakfast took the Viramgam By-Pass and again the Bull started mis-behaving, yet pulled on a bit and found a rail-road crossing which waited for the train to pass as the crossing was closed, again Krunal sprung into action and got the bull back to life and on the test run even amused the crowds with a wheelie. These though were not the only issues the bull gave us.

Reached Dasada after a few wrong turns and inquiring with the locals. There seemed nothing like a Dessert anywhere in sight, further inquiry revealed we would have to goto Patdi or Khara Ghoda or Mith Ghoda, decided on Mitha Ghoda as it seemed to be the nearest place.

Reaching there was a pleasure in itself as it was complete offloading trails only with JV taking the lead on his ever so reliable Rx. after a while saw him waiting for the group a with vast expanses of the dessert in front of him and on further observation saw what we were here to see the Wild Asses.

    to be cont.

The group assembled in the middle of the mini Desert, took off their gear rested for a while, but for how long, cams started to come out, snaps being taken of the Asses and then JV and Souvik and myself just could not watch them from a distance had to get closer to see what they really looked like. Huge animals I must say, for once we thought like they were Horses but they have a very distinct color shade greyish and light brown yellow all over, we are astonished as how they maintained such a physic in the middle of a dessert with hardly anything around to eat.

JV and Souvik had had enough and went after them chasing them to each and every corner of the desert JV snapping away happily while Souvik gave them a real chase, I joined in and we all realized that I was the one with better equipment which we were not using, so Souvik took my bike with me as pillion and ran around the vast expanses chasing those lovely creatures around who seems totally lost in their own home. As Souvik puts it, "They must have felt that we were there just to run them over". In no time ended up having the Mules / Asses cornered in some bushes in the opposite direction as to where the group had initially assembled dumped their valuable.

We thought we had had enough of the running around and again in no time the group assembled for some bike exchanges and some stunting and speed runs in a place which for us all resembled nothing but the Bonneville Salt Tracks of USA. Vast expanses of barren salt covered landscape, nothing to see but the horizon, we did not need a second invitaton to rip our bikes and show off our skills to non but ourselves.

Krunal having the most fun showing off almost all his stunts especially safe burnouts as tyres only kept digging in without burning any rubber, then he was off to test his speeds, tested each and every bike and also not forgetting to chase the Mules if and when he got a chance. Also almost showed off his Christ but the surface had not completely dried off after the rains.

It is then that disaster struck for the 3rd time today or atleast that is what we thought, the Bull got a puncture with no human settlements anywhere in the next 5-7 KM, we all thought a lot as to how to resolve the issue but could not come up with one other than that to ride the Bull as long as we could with what ever little air pressure there was in the front. So off went Shreyansh with a severely mishandling bull and roads which did not exist. After him went Sharad to help him in case he got stuck and the rest of the group gathered our belongings and and off we went, with Krunal insisting on Driving my P220 and I sitting pillion, even after repeated warnings he did not slow down and then the unthinkable, a large thud and there we were the 2 of us on the ground and steed sorts of sinking into the soft sticky sand and the bike on my already injured leg, I almost felt my leg break into 2 for a while but then gathered myself and pulled out my leg from below the bike and JV and Souvik rushing to get the bike up and check on our status. In the end everything was ok with us and I took on the mental of riding the bike from there on.

On riding further came across Shreyansh and Sharad waiting for us with Shreyansh very very worried about distroying his fron tube and even more of damaging his Rim. We decided let the group wait there while me and Krunal went to nearest village and get someone who would repair the puncture and help us out of this issue.

Off we the 2 of us went to get some help, reached a small settlement found the local puncturewalas home to be told he was not around. Asked them to contact him which they promptly did and even passed on the message that we were tourist, the puncturewala emerges from right behind his own house in no less then a few second, only to be told by the idiotic guy that he could not help us out, thinking he would be able to increase the rates a bit but we were not to budge under such pressure, Krunal just gave me a look and I knew he meant lets get our of here, so we headed back to the group with very bad news.

Krunal though already had an idea to resolve the issue, so he suggested that we remove the front wheel and take it to Jaunabad which was 15-20 Km from where we were, so he took out Bulls tool kit and started to open the wheel but unfortunately non of the spanners would fit, another setback to the group, then I thought of gettting out the P220 tool kit and viola it was a perfect fit, took him a while to get the wheel off, so I asked Souvik and JV to go get some snacks and water for the group as the sun was really beating hard on us. In the meantime Krunal got the wheel off and Shreyansh and myself got on the P220 and off we went with the wheel to Jaunabad it took us almost half and hour to get there.

On reaching Jaunabad got hold of a puncturewala and he promptly got the puncture done in less than 10 muntes while we refreshed off with a chilled 7UP. Paid Rs 30 to the Puncturewala and off we went to rejoin with the group. We were waiting for the wheel to be fit Shreyansh told us that he also lost his new Helmet earlier the same morning and then the whole sequence of bad luck kicked off, but to our relief this what the last bit of it.

Off we went to Viramgam and had our much earned Lunch almost 2 PM by now and we were planning to reach back home by Noon, some hard luck though. Lunch was not of the best quality or taste but we were all so hungry.

On the return from Viramgam Shrey and Shreyansh broke off with the group to visit their relative at the native place and the rest of 4 bikes ripped back home having some real duals with a few vehicles on the way and JV being really bugged by his cousin who he had promised to meet.

After Sarkhej the group broke off to their respective homes while Krunal and myself headed off to our regular meeting point Shambhu's coffee bar and called up Sudeep on the way so that he too could join us there.

Thought of not waiting for Sudeep at Shambhu's and headed to the new HD showroom in town with Krunal showing me all car showrooms with no signs of HD anywhere, how could there be one when he was heading me in the wrong direction. Took a u turn from High court and headed back to the right direction to the HD Showroom where the 2 of us looked around at the wonderful machines and the riding gear which was obviously not meant for us as it was way over our budget, after a while went back to Shambhu's and waited for Sudeep to arrive while the both of us had some nice Espresso.

Very well written log!!!! Seems that apart from ride, there were few problems faced by the group, though experiences good or bad can be cherished later on...

Though the experiences seem bad we all had a great time and it is those tough times which leave an everlasting memory and impression in the mind.

The best part of it all was that the group did not panic in such situations, just showed how mature the riders were, though most of them other than Krunal, JV and myself were very inexperienced they too held their composure and follow the instructions given to them and that is really commendable.

Missed a lot of the regular riders this time.

Guys forgot to mention that the Bull developed another snag as well, just before we stopped for Lunch the Bull started making funny sounds as though there was no silencer on it. We somehow pulled the bull till we stopped for lunch and on inspection realized that the silencer as just about to fall off, that was hopefully the last off the problems for us on the trip
