    Default Kon-canny ride...!!

    Best Plan is no plan!!
Nothing better than an unplanned bike ride, isn’t it? & just be so pleasantly surprised by the decision that it gives u a sense of achievement & contentment…because as they say, in the end…it’s all about the ride, not the destination.
From last few months I was sinking into this feeling of being...just another commuter & was dying to do away with this melancholy >> apartment TO office TO apartment.
Thanks to Vithoba & Dharma for literally dragging us to go for this ride.
We have been some silent followers of xbhp & finally found ourselves worth enough to post something on the forums.

    Glad to introduce:-

    The riders & their rides:
Vithoba Utekar: Avenger 220…The guy has tasted tarmac more than anyone else I know :P, but has come a long way now in terms of riding.
Muthesh dharma: HH Glamour…An avid traveler & curious photographer! You name the place..he is IN!!
Chandan Gaur: Avenger 180…The kind of guy, who would wake up 3am in the night & go just look at his bike!!
Me (Arpit Tank): KTM Duke…People often ask me, "do you have a girlfriend?", I say Yeaah, her name 's KTM Duke, she lives in my garage!! :P

    The route:
Pune-> Tamhini Ghat-> Srivardhan beach (Via Mangao)-> Harihareshwar temple-> Bagmandla-> Local fishermen ferry (yes that counts :P)-> Bankot-> Himmatgarh-> Government run Jetty (:P)-> Back to Pune by same route.

    30th June 2012:
10:30 – We could not start early in the morning for various reasons, not too important to be discussed here & the rest is history.
It all started from chandani chowk, pirangut toll plaza where we all got together & moved towards Tamhini Ghat.
Tamhini Ghat is always a delight in the monsoons. I need not say much, photographs below!!

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

We were really surprised by some of the curves on the top where the tarmac had been re done (although not with finest levels of finishing), but same time last year it was extremely bad!!

Tamhini Ghat, looking where we rode from!!

On looking Tamhini Ghat from another small Ghat section...after Mangaon.

Some of the roads were just so perfect...

Friendly fire ON!! If you know what I mean! :P

Safety doesn't happen by accident! Ride Safe!!

The konkan strip greeted us with heavy rains leaving the visibility to just few meters.
It was a pleasure to see the reaction of people, watching with their eyes wide open, when everybody had stopped road side, there were these 4 bikers enjoying the welcome showers!!

If you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride!!

The rain followed us till shrivardhan & much to our satisfaction, stopped just when we reached Srivardhan Beach.

    Srivardhan Beach

Although, monsoons are not the best time to visit beaches, but remember!?...its all about the ride )
We stayed near the srivardhan beach for the night. a small guest house called...Nivant...which means relaxed, & it indeed was!!
Although we being drenched in rain, our rooms rather looked like a laundry house :P, but it felt like we had earned this night's sleep.

    1st July 2012:
06:30 - We left for harihareshwar temple, the road was beautiful with green cover both sides. It was absolute fun to ride on those empty stretches!!
    Enroute harihareshwar temple.

We parked at the temple parking, went for the darshan. But to our disappointment the pradakshina stairs over the hill top was closed due to some recent accidents.

We just sat there watching the violent sea, the sound of waves hitting the rocks was like music to ears!! Sitting there we could easily forget, what we did for a living.

10:30 - By this time we completely forget, we are human beings, we need food to survive!! :P We left & stopped at a small snacks centre.
I can vouch for the fact that it was by far the best Poha I ever had in my life (of course leaving aside what my maa prepares), we had several servings of poha, upma & tea, all yummazzingg!!
Unaware of where to ride further, we just casually asked the waiter about any more places to see nearby. He told us to head for Bagmandla a small fishermen village & said we would find some ferries there, which can take both us & our riders across the creek, to bankot.
The road from harihareshwar temple till bagmandla was an absolute delight. Tall, lush green trees along the road, letting just traces of sunlight to come in.

Finally we rode till the end of the road!!

I skipped not one but several heart beats at this moment, but in the end they really handle our bikes well, that too at INR 30 only!! These were local fishermen, who are used to transporting two wheelers on daily basis. But they exclaimed “zaada log aate naii ghoomne ko, bearish k time to koi nai..!!” All through the trip we got some special treatment by onlookers due to this very reason.

We got down at bankot. The streets were really narrow. Riding one after each other carefully dodging the residents, their poultry, their dogs, their cats, their children et al, it felt more like a chase sequence from an action movie,
We got to the foot hill & saw that the way up top is really steep & given that it had just rained, it would have been a real scare had our tires not had been in good shape!!

Reached the top & found that there is newly laid tarmac under pradhan mantri gram sadak yojna. & we also realized that just like that we had reached Ratnagiri district!! That meant touching 4 districts in one day!

Vithoba got sentimental after I said him, please follow, ATGATT (All the gear all the time)!! :P

Returned back to Himmatgarh fort onlooking the Arabian Sea. What a view!! Spent some time at the fort…fresh air…soothing environment!!

While going back we decided to take the government run Jetty, which was less scary to put our bikes on. We could ride inside the Jetty to park our vehicles. The gentleman at the ticket counter was surprised to see us. He found it amusing as to why 4 people would come on 4 bikes? Why not just 2??!! :P

    Waiting for the jetty

Look at the tyres & engine cowl!! Dirty!!

Heading back. Vile Bhagad MIDC road...after riding down from Tamhini ghat...a loooong stretch, you can try to test your top speeds!!

    Tamhini ghat again!

Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly!

Just after the ghat when you start to enter the limits of Pune, it is difficult to suddenly adapt to the crazy traffic!! & suddenly you realize, the trip has come to an end, it’s the rat race again from next day!!

Life is a book, if you do not travel...you are stuck on a page!!

    Ride Safe...
    Arpit

Ankit.. words fail me... I just wish I had enough experience / exposure on riding the Ghats, in the rain etc. I am still struggling with the Duke even during light drizzle..really scared to cross 30 kmph or shift to 4th gear..

The winding road tempts me to find places where I could take my Duke... simply awe inspiring .. How did the Duke fare during this ride, especially the rear tire ?
