Default Konkan Ride:3000kms of pure cruising: Konkan on a Royal Enfield Thunderbird

    Teaser:
Six Days, one machine, one cause: Save girl child and we rode from Mangalore to Mumbai to ride with few hundreds Bullets on Independence Day.

It was a ride through dense dark forest of Yellapur, smooth Pune-Mumbai Highway, pathetic-conditioned NH-17 of Karnataka, scenic NH-17 of Goa and Maharastra, best of tunnels, and ghats and country road.

    The route taken was:
    Mangalore-Udupi-Kumta-Yellapur-Kolhapur-Pune-Mumbai-Pune-Mahabaleshwar-Ratnagiri-Malvan-Goa-Karwar-Mangalore.

Almost 7000 clicks have been shuttered (by Me and Aravind). Sharing the teaser. Will post the best of it one by one.

The drum brake was tightened. This created overheating and sound started coming as the brake shoes expanded ( I guess so). Loosened the rear brake and problem got resolved.

    Arrow Part 1:

It all started with a crazy planning in the middle of July when we could figure out a plan for a Monsoon ride to the coastal areas of Konkan. I was dying to visit Mumbai, so we thought of riding till Mumbai and then visit rest of the KOnkan while riding back to Mangalore.

Then, I connected with the fellow bikers in Mumbai. I love meeting bikers on the way. Suddenly I got a call from Suhail-bhai(Muhammad Suhail Muneer) from Udupi. Saks, why dont you ride to Mumbai for a cause on Independence Day?
Sorry sirjee, have to be there in office. Cant leave my commitment over there in office (hope my boss is also reading this).

Suddenly, the idea of night ride came into mind. Starting Mangalore in second half on 14th August, and reaching Mumbai 15th early morning, ride with the Independence Day ride with close to thousands Bullets for a noble cause was there on my mind.

Started from Mangalore at 2 pm sharp on 14th Aug.
    Start up point:

The road till Udupi is under construction. Its going to get upgraded to 4-lane soon, but right now lot of diversions here and there. I travel to Udupi very often as I have many friends out there (and the \m/ factor Manipal) , but still the diversion keeps on changing so frequently that it becomes difficult to guess. We reached Udupi and thought of not taking break and head towards Kundapura. And the bad roads started.

The backside wheel started generating a knocking sound. I stopped the bike and could see that the brake got overheated because of tightening. Loosened it and headed towards Marwanthe. This place is amazing for a tea break in the sunset time.

Amazing place to click sunset pics. This is the place where you will find river at one side and sea at the other end.

And the worst stretch of the road started as we moved.

Kundapur to Bhatkal is one of the worst stretches to travel during monsoon.

    Natural

Added to that, it started raining heavily and we just realised that traveling above 30kmph will be a risky affairs. Called my biker friend and Indian roadmap Sanjeev Bhatia. How good it is to travel to Yellapur from Ankola in night. I need to be there in Mumbai by morning.
    Sakshar-bhai, try following a truck.
Dont get surprised to see an elephant

We took a right turn towards Hubli just after Kumta, and stopped for night tea and snacks. The previous stretch was worst and we were down with the experience and pain we had in that worst stretch. We stopped there for about 30minutes, took power nap and headed toward Yellapur.

And the good road started. Awesome thick dense forest, fog, curves, less traffic have refreshed our mindset. As I mostly do during night time, I followed a truck which was at a constant speed of 65kmph. Enjoyed cruising at its best.
We hit the Pune Bangalore expressway at around 12 in the night. We stopped at a dhaba for a short nap of 1 hour. We were refreshed and started in one of the smoothest roads in India. Night, trucks and absolute serenity, loved it.

Had a tyre puncture near to Kolhapur. My puncture kits came into rescue. Took half an hour to repair the patch and started again towards Pune.
Reached Pune outskirts at around 7:30 am.

    Good Morning Pune!!

    Next stop, Mumbai.

I shall be back soon with the rest of the blog.

To hold your interest, a few teasers

    Will be right back
    Vykier and maadyy like this.
