Default 380 Kms of Unplanned Ride to Snowy Mt Baw Baw - Australia

A restless Saturday followed by an awesome Sunday.Saturday i was bit confused, which direction and which place to visit.Being in a new country you always face such type of situations, even google doesn't helps much on the weekend gateway's part.It throws you to those tours and travel websites which are of no use.

The confusion, whether i am going on a ride or not made me start late at around 10:00 AM in the morning.Set up the route details to reach Yarra Junction from where i planned to head towards Mt Baw Baw via Noojee. Here is the route map which i followed on my ride.

Took the Eastlink Freeway this time,Instead of the City highways.Took and exit at Springvale Road, from where the Eastlink Toll road started. Was back on the state highways.Followed Maroondah highway to reach Seville,Woori Yallock and then Yarra Junction.Stopped at Yarra Junction for quick breakfast.

A view from an inside road in Woori Yallock

Diverted from the Yarra Junction towards Noojee.Roads were as usual butter smooth and awesome. Was easily cruising at 80 km/h.

Bumped into a tourist spot just before Noojee.'Trestle Rail Bridge' - A wooden rail bridge.

Designed by Architect Edward Ballard, the Noojee rail bridge was opened in 1919 & was primarily used for transporting timber & farming produce from the Gippsland district into main towns. In 1926, the Noojee bridge (as well as most of the town) was destroyed during the Black Sunday bushfires. The town & bridge was razed again in the 1939 Black Friday bushfires.

The line was finally closed on March 27th, 1954, when the Buln Buln Shire Council purchased the No. 7 Noojee trestle bridge from Victorian Railways for the nominal sum of 1 (about $2). This historic eighteen-span structure measures 102m (335ft) long & 20m (66ft) high. It is architecturally significant as the tallest surviving timber trestle bridge in Victoria & a unique & intact example of trestle bridge construction. The Noojee trestle bridge is registered with the National Trust of Australia.

Met a nice couple from Noojee who advised me to check out the waterfalls which are on the way towards Mt Baw Baw,few kms ahead of Noojee. The waterfalls were 3-4 Kms off from the main road leading to Mt Baw Baw.

There was a Jungle trek of 3-4 Kms to reach the waterfalls. In actual there were two waterfalls named 'Toorongo Waterfalls and Amphitheatre Falls'.Initially i was quite skeptical about the trek, but then i left all my stuff..picked up the camera and went ahead with the trek.Sometimes you should do the things which you hate the most, keeps your hatred alive and kicking

    Toorongo Waterfalls

    Amphitheatre Waterfalls

The jungle trail was pretty exciting and i thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Few Kms ahead of Noojee

It was 02 PM and Mt Baw Baw was around 45 Kms far.Again confused, whether to go ahead or return from here because if i continued ahead,it was confirmed that i had to ride in the dark.Against all negative thoughts i decided to ride ahead.Around 30 Kms before Mt Baw Baw..roads became narrow and twisty.I didn't do any cornering or any stunt and i was riding under the speed limits mentioned on the highway.Cannot risk anything in a foreign county

    Beautiful view along the highway

Around 5-10 Kms before Mt Baw Baw,I saw few sign boards saying 'A motor vehicle should not go ahead without chains'.Assuming that is not applicable for motorcycles i rode ahead and reached the entry point of Mt Baw Baw.There was a small checkpost and a guy came running to me..he asked few details and let me go.It was freaking cold and every part of my body was freezing.I was shivering badly,I reached the top and parked my bike.

Took out the camera and went for a walk,Though i was having very hard time keeping up in the cold..My excitement to explore the place was making me go ahead with all these Odds.

The place was full with the peoples who were passionate about Snow Sports.I had a quick tour of 20 mins and just when i started slipping on the ice ..i returned back to the parking.Without wasting any second i started the return journey,After reaching back to the entry point i set the GPS to Melbourne following Monash Freeway.

I returned back to Noojee and fueled up the tank with 10 AUD.Petrol was bit costly here, around 154 cents per ltr..approx 20 cents/ltr costly than the city.Location based Profiteering is there in every country.

Lovely spread of the sunset color

Followed Neerim North Road and then Neerim main road to reach Princess Highway.By the time i reached the highway..it was already dark.I started crusing at a speed of 90-95 Km/hr until it started raining.Had to sustain in the rain for 40 mins and finally i reached home at 08:30.

Purchased a bottle of wine to get rid of the cold, and yeah i sipped the entire bottle in the night. An unplanned ride to Mt Baw Baw,A superb adventure and an awesome weekend.

    Cheers

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.
