The only place where we felt extreme cold was sarchu. It was close to 5 degrees. But we managed to get a tent for rent as we didnt have energy to use our tent. They gave big blankets and even that was not enough during night. Finally we didn't use tent and sleeping bag in the whole trip. General thermal wears were pretty useful in the whole journey.

Thanks for the inquiry. I will answer whatever I know in points according to your sequence.
    1) Delhi to manali is almost 13 hrs journey. So better catch an evening bus which can take you to manali in early morning.
    2) In manali, silmog garden is very good hotel for a couple if u give importance to service, food quality and comfort. You might get rooms in the range 3-4k or even lesser. If not, there are many hotels which you can comfortably go there and book. But keeping in mind that only couple r going, better book in advance for any hotel..
    3) If someone has breathing / wheezing problems, it is advisable not to stay in sarchu. The other issue you may face is headache the intensity of which may vary from person to person. For a healthy adult, it is not a problem to stay there. But avoid getting too much strained when staying there. Avoid heavy food. Drink lots of water. Thermals wear is must especially in this place.
4)When you reach LEH the problem is the mediators or so called brokers throng up on you for getting rooms. Believing them completely may be risky. Also by the time you reach LEH, you will be too much tired to find the hotel there as most of them are either full or out of reach of your budget. So better book in advance.
One option is Anshah guest house which has pretty good rooms with moderate price. It is located in front of a german bakery and at one end of the LEH bazaar street.
Contact details in just dial is

Anshah Guest House in Leh Ladakh, Leh Ladakh | Hotels | Justdial

Not sure if this hotel does pre booking. But you can call and ask. Else book any other hotel online.
    5) Now coming to point of route from Nubra to pangong direct:
As you are couple going there, better avoid this route. The road conditions are terrible. At some places you may also have to do off road biking. So better avoid it. This is also mentioned in many other online sources.
It is advisable to travel like this..
    LEH - Nubra(1day stay)
    Nubra - LEH(stay in LEH)
    LEH - Pangong(stay)
    Pangong - LEH
    Total 4 days.
If you have less number if days, better avoid Nubra valley.
If you have less number of days but you do not want to avoid Nubra, then Do Nubra trip in Bike for 2 days and Pangong trip in TAXI in 1 day. So you can save 1 day.

    6) Now coming to Kargil stay:
Better avoid the stay in Kargil as you may not find good hotel and food. So option is that, You leave LEH very early. Reach Drass which is less than 50kms from kargil. On the way to Drass dont miss Kargil war memorial to the right side. Drass is a small stretch of village with very few decent hotels. The views are just awesome.
One hotel is Danish resorts in main road to the right when coming from Kargil. It is not a resort but you can get very decent rooms.
    Contact number is : 9419377077, 8803816802
    7) Now stay in Srinagar.
You can get plenty of hotels near DAL lake. Also you can try house boat in DAL lake. Better avoid outskirts.
    8) Now coming to your bike's performance.
I have seen many avengers on the way. So that should not be a problem. Only thing is get it completely serviced before leaving. Carry the parts that I had listed in the beginning.
Better have knee guards for both.
When you face a high current water crossing, better ask your partner to get down and walk. If nobody is there in the crossing place, better wait for few minutes, so that they come for some help while crossing in case of some emergency. Dont worry about dress or shoes getting wet. If it becomes wet, take a break, remove the boots and socks. Allow it to dry for some time.
Next is too much slush on the way to Keylong. Better leave manali very early. Be too slow at the slush area.
Avoid riding at night. Thank got it gets dark only after 8pm.
Carry extra fuel cans. 2 cans of 5lts should be enough.

All the best for your trip. Enjoy the beauty of Himalayas.

Hello Guys, I will continue the thread from day 5:

    Day 5: 22nd july( Sarchu leh, 270kms, ETD: 7:30am, ETA: 8pm)
Got up very early. Just took some hot water in a tumbler and washed our face. Had some hot tea and then left the place after again tedious packing. With in our stomachs started its work. It needed a place unload old stuff. So we rested and went by walk in search of natural toilets. Now thats done. We continued our journey. No proper place to have breakfast. The roads till pang are terrible. Too many ups and downs. Completely isolated. No chance of spotting green. Fully dry. Difficult to breath. Continues headache. Finally reached Pang, another high altitude place. There we had some stuff to eat. The chilly effect was gone. It was hot. The locals there told not to waste too much time as the road ahead are again bad at some spots especially near Tanglang la. So we all left the place. The next stretch was the one taken in JAB THAK HAI JAAN movie. Yes the scene where the king khan rides a bullet in military dress. We also thought of doing some video shoot. The video which you guys saw in the opening scene. That is the most beautiful place/stretch we rode. Just out of the world. No words to explain. It makes you to forget all your pain. Than we headed towards Tanglang la. This stretch was terrible. The road always ascending. With loose gravel and dry roads. Difficult to control the bike. We always felt the bike was wobbling. Finally the peak came after lot of stress full ride. There we met few Belgium guys riding. Did some photoshoot. In the mean time, those guys stole 5lts can from my friends can as the bike was parked little far. When we realized this, they were not in the scene. After Tanglang la, the road till LEH is just awesome. We reached LEH by 7:30pm. The place was too crowded. Too many brokers were behind us to get rooms. We then took some time and searched room ourselves. Got a room for 1500 bucks per day. The name is Anshah guest house in front of german bakery near the market area. Even the food is very expensive here. Finally could see some weak signal bars in our mobiles and could call our families. Had dinner and called for the day.
    At Sarchu

That's me..At very isolated Nakeela Pass

    Again me..At Lachulung La

    Just before Pang

This is road in which Jab thak hai jaan scene was shot I guess..

The Dust covered guys at Tanglang La

Day 6: 23rd july (LEH- FULL REST)

We were so stressed that we decided not to ride that day. So we didnt even touch our bikes. No jeans, jackets, packing.. Just relax in our shorts and t-shirts. Decided to roam around by walk, purchased custom made t-shirts for all 4 of us. Majority of the tourists are foreigners here in LEH. This has made the place very expensive. Finally called for the day.

Day 7: 24th July(Leh-Khardung la- LEH: ETD:7am,90kms To and fro, ETA at LEH: 2:30pm)

This was the day we all were waiting for. Yes, it is every bulleteers dream to reach thereThats none other than the mighty Kardhung La..THE HIGHEST MOTORABLE ROAD IN THE WORLD at 18380feet. With full enthu.. we got ready and there was no need of any packing and tying the bags. Left LEH by 7am. The road condition till South Pallu is just awesome. You feel the road continuously ascending but we rode with ease till South Pallu. There is a checkpost at South Pallu. They were asking for a filled form to get the permit. We were not aware of that. We requested some taxi drivers and one guy gave an extra form. Filled all the details. Showed one original ID proof. Then they permitted. So, anybody going there in future, please take the necessary permit form in LEH itself. Just after the checkpost there was a small military canteen. We had noodles breakfast. We got to hear some brave stories of few army guys which they were discussing. Really horrifying. After this break we started our ride. Because of landslide, the road clearance work was going on. Had to wait there for atleast 20mins. There hundreds of bikers gathered. Was really astonished to see so many bikers. Anyway we were one of them. The road after this till the top was very bad. Hurrayyyyy. Finally we were there. The first thing we did was photoshoot. Took multi angle photos. Took some 20 mins break. We could some difficulty in breathing if we walk more but not too much. We started ride towards LEH. We knew we would be much quicker this time as it was descending and no need to stop at checkpost. The place was actually hot. On the way back, we got to meet a solo rider from Israil. We gave him our address as he showed interest to join us the next day. In no time we were down the hill at LEH at 2:30pm. Parked our bikes at hotel and had lunch nearby. Unanimously we decided to hire a taxi next day to go to pangang lake since we were short of days.So we booked a taxi decided to call for the day.

On the way to Kardung La

    Feeling Awesome...

Day 8: 25th July ( LEH- Pangong lake- LEH, BY TAXI, ETD: 6:30am, ETA 7pm, 480 kms to and fro, 7000 bucks)

The Isarali friend promptly came to our hotel in time so as the taxi guy. But as usual we were late latheefs.. Made them to wait for some time. We all got ready quickly and started our journey. The taxi was new innova and the taxi driver was polite and was giving many info about the place. On the way we got Chang la peak (17,590ft). Again did some photoshoot, had some tea and breakfast and left the place. Most part of the road is unbelievably bad. Within 12 noon we were there at the most beautiful lake in India thats the Pangong lake(14,270ft). The panoramic view there was mesmerizing, breath taking, awesome. The lake is much more blue than the sky. This is actually salt water lake and the lake freezes completely during winter. The place when we reached was pretty hot. Also, just before entering the lake area, we saw pagal nala. It is so called because the water gushes with intense force. This is the place meant for photography. Anybody for that matter, Just take a random pic, and it will be awesome. The isaraili guy did a trick. He bought a salted chips and started feeding the beautiful gull birds there. He could attract more than 50 of them. It came so close and I could take beautiful pics of the birds. After all fun and play, we had lunch there and decided to leave the place. 2 of my friends and the israili guy slept in the car. Myself and my friend ram were sharing about our past travel experiences. By 7pm we reached LEH town. As discussed with the driver, we paid him 7k bucks and sent our israili friend. Had dinner and went back to room. We knew that the next day was again gonna be hectic. So slept early. Hence called for the day.

    At Chang La

    Fun Time at Pangong Lake

    The Gulls..

    My favorite pic

    The closed loop

    With the Israili friend

Will update the stuff from day 9 Shortly..

I think the stone structure is some kind of ritual practice in hill regions. Not sure what exactly is that.
I got the GoPro from tappers Bangalore. Not sure if they have store in your place. Please check tappers.com site

    Hi,
Then you can follow your instinct. But please be careful and also try to get to know some bikers group and go with them. Atleast for this stretch.

    Good luck.

    Hello Friends,

I am really happy that the number of views for this thread is increasing every day. Not taking much time, I will continue with the 9th day of our expedition.

    Day 9 : 26th July(LEH-Drass via Kargil, 300kms)

This was the most memorable day in our journey. Many points are there to add to it. One is, we covered 300kms on a single day. Next the road was extremely good. Felt like riding to heaven. Next, the day when we reached kargil, it was Vijay Diwas( the day when kargil war was won). This was a great coincidence. Our hearts were filled with emotions. There was a strange feeling when we were nearing Kargil. We could not belive ourselves that we were there. As we reached kargil bit early, we thought of proceeding further. The next spot was Drass. The guys in kargil said there are good rooms in drass. On the way, my friends bike got punctured. The place was no mans land. There was a checkpost very close. When enquired them, they told about a puncture shop very close. We all were relieved. Got his bike repaired and proceeded further. On the way, we spotted Kargil war memorial. We thought of visiting the place. We got to see a museum where the photos of brave hearts of India, grenades from Pakistan are displayed. Took some photos there. Left the place. In no time we reached Drass. It is a small stretch on the beautiful highway where we found some hotels, mechanic shops, STD bhooth as there is no signal. Enquired a room there and got a nice and cheap room. The name is Danish resorts but definitely not a resort though. Had super dinner and called for the day.

    Day 10: 27th July(Drass Srinagar, ETD:10am, ETA: 6pm, 130kms)
Had some delicious breakfast and did all tying work of bags and left the beautiful place Drass. The first half of the ride was very good. Had some food in a military canteen. Then suddenly the road disappeared. The guards there pointed us to deviate at a point. Then came the toughest part of the day. Yes, thats the most dangerous Zozilla pass. Oh My God. No road, No sight of vehicles. Just sand, sand. Absolutely no control over the bike. We felt we were almost lost. Finally crossed the risky pass. We decided to take a long break. We could feel some sense of risk in the place close to Srinagar as there were too many military men doing rounds in large numbers also in tankers. We all decided not to create any problem there with anybody for that matter. Then we proceeded towards Srinagar. The hotel guy in drass had given an address of the hotel in Srinagar. So we directly went there. It is too much inside the town. The driving there by locals is too rash. Every moment we had to be alert. Finally we could locate the room and boarded there. We were the only customers there. All the residents were looking us strangely as though we were from some other planet. Took some rest. Had some food. In the evening we took an auto and went to dal lake. We were in no mood to take a boat ride. Just did a street walk and had some delicious dosas. We went back to room and called for the day.

    Day11: 28th july (Srinagar to Jammu, 300kms, ETD :8am, ETA: 11pm, via Udhampur )
This was the unforgettable day. You will come to know as you read. As we had a very big stretch to cover, we got up early and started the ride for the day. Exiting from the town was very difficult as we didnt know proper routes and there was too much traffic. As our backs were paining a lot, we were taking too many breaks. So the time we reached Udhampur, it was evening. The roads condition in the stretch is moderate to very bad. Some places were too wet as it was raining. The riding became bit difficult in such difficult conditions. It all started from Udhampur. One more point to mention, my bikes horn was completely off from day 1. It was repaired by many guys in many places but was failing very badly. Just after this place called Udhampur, there was a long tunnel. All 3 friends were ahead of me at this point. My bike started some jerk as if the petrol was empty. But tank was full. So me how I managed to overtake my friends and signaled them to stop. Finally the tunnel was over and bad time started. My bike completely refused to go further and stopped. All four of us tried to start the bike and it didnt. The only thing that was working in my bike at that moment was head light. No indicators, no horns, and no working engine, no back light. Somehow we managed to change the spark ourselves. But even that didnt help. The place where we had parked was a ghat section with a very narrow road and the trucks and buses were so rash that we got too much scared to stand even on the road side. It was already dark. Finally we decided to toe the bike for some distance. Had tough time in toeing the bike. Thanks to Ajith and ram. We got a small shed where we parked the bike. The 2 friends took their bike and went further in search of a mechanic. Just in few kms, they got a toll bhooth. The guy there helped in getting a mechanic. The guy could easily locate the problem. But the cause was shocking. The rubber adapter where petrol goes to carburetor was broken. The pipe like structure had become in to 2 pieces. But the question was how did that happen. He just wrapped some packing tapes and joined them. The bike started easily. The guy told not to ride very far had suggested us to change it as soon as possible. Finally we gave him 500 bucks for helping us at that time and started our ride towards jammu. The main town was not that far from that point. By 11pm we reached there and boarded a room near bus stand. The name is hotel city heart. Had some rotis at that late night and called for the day.

Day 12: 29th July( Jammu to Amritsar, 230kms)
The target next day was to get my bikes problem fixed. We could locate a Royal enfield service center. Got it repaired and started our journey. It was almost noon when we started the journey. It was too hot to ride. The entire road stretch is good except at some places close to Amritsar. It was almost 8pm when we reached the place. Boarded a decent room close to golden temple. Had tasty dinner and called for the day.

    Day 13: 30th July(Golden temple-Jalian wala Bagh - Amritsar-Wahgah border-Amritsar, <80kms)

Got up very leisurely as we didnt have much bigger tasks to do that day. Had nice breakfast and left the hotel to see Golden temple and Jalian wala bagh. The place was too hot and we were sweating like hell. Then we had some special Lassi and decided to go to the great Wagah border which is less than 40kms from city. We reached there around 4pm. But we never imagined that the place will be so much crowded. The military guys were very strict. Finally after a lot of struggle we entered the parade premises. The crowd was fully electrified. The patriotism was at its peak in every Indians heart. Could not understand what exactly was the custom there and why are those done. By evening all things got over. Left the place and reached the hotel by 8pm. Had dinner and called for the day.

    Day 14: 31st July(Amritsar-Hamirpur, 230kms)
The only thing left now was to reach our destination Manali safely. We didnt want to be in hurry. So decided to have a relaxed ride for another 2 days. So we thought of taking a break in Hamirpur. The ride from Amritsar was very tedious. The temperature was too pointing high all the time. The roads were moderately good. Also encountered some terrible roads in between close to Hamirpur. We could reach the town by 6pm and comfortably search and board room. Had some dinner and slept.

    Day15: 1st Aug( Hamirpur-Manali, 240kms)

Had some breakfast and left the place. After some time it started raining. The riding was bit difficult as it was raining and also the road was curvy and the condition of the road was not that great. On the way close to manali, had lunch and left again. Took many breaks in between as we wanted to prolong our riding as much as possible. By 5pm, we reached the Final destination of the expedition Manali. We again went to the same hotel where we had taken the first day. Got the same room for 1k. Unpacked all the bags, got freshened up and gave back the bikes to the sno peak retreat hotel guy. Also complained him about the problems we faced with the bike. But no response from him. Later we booked the bus tickets the next day to Delhi which was at 4pm. Went back to room and called for the day.

Day 16: 2nd Aug (Manali- Delhi, Bus, ETD: 4pm, ETA: next day 6am)

We sold all our bike spares which we had to a local guy. We could recover atleast 80 percent of the money. Gave back all the petrol cans for free. Packed all our stuffs. Then as we had plenty of time, we decided to watch a movie in Manali theatre. The theatre there was really good enough. The movie name was Kick, salman khan starrer. The movie was just average. Then we had some food to recharge and went to the bus stand. The bus started bit late. We 4 were the only guys making noise in the bus. Rest all were the honeymoon pairs. Not sure if they were cursing us. Then the bus guy started a movie. Believe it or not..The movie was yet again KickL . We were in no mood to watch it again. So we slept.

Day 17: 3rd Aug ( delhi to Bangalore by flight. ETA: 8pm)

Next day early morning we were in Delhi. Took 2 autos and reached Delhi Airport. We were too early for the flight. But still we checked in and were waiting. In the mean team, my friend Ram got sick. No body had energy to talk or roam around in the airport. We just relaxed and waited for our flight. Finally the time came and we boarded the flight. By 8pm we reached Bangalore.I was the first one to get the drop. Then my friends continued. My parents were too happy to see me back. As the month of july was Ashada as per hindus, my wife was staying in her parents house. She came the same night after I reached.
I could sense the relief in her face when she saw me back her home unhurt. The only change was that our skin was tanned. We also had lost weight. But we had in our minds that yes Finally we have done it. Thats the great Himalayan Expedition.
