Default Short Travelogue - Mid-Week Crisis : A trip to solace : Manchanabele | Savandurga

    Tuesday - 8PM
Laptop shut. Mood pissed off. A disgruntled sigh! That’s how my Tuesday felt like. I slept early so as to run away from all the problems and slept.

    Wednesday
    7.00 AM
My eyes, half open search for the phone. A look at the phone and my 5AM alarm is still ringing. “What the F$%#. Why can’t I hear it?” . Now my eyes are wide open and I look for the sound settings. Alarm sound – Zero. And I think to myself as if I woke up at 5AM , I would have actually went for that jog.

    8.00 AM
Thinking when the reality will hit and I have to get on with the daily Project Compilations. I open my Laptop and things are pretty slow. Manual RESET. I don’t think I have the patience for a normal restart. Laptop restarts, and of all the days, the dreaded Software update. Ahhhh !!! Why !!

    8.05 AM
Still updating. Multiple restarts already over. Fists getting tight, teeth grinding.

    8.10 AM
Fist on the door. And Laptop Shut. Taking a shower and thinking about the cosmic forces at play to malign the semblance I had created of my life. And all of a sudden things are so clear.

    Symptom : Mid Week Crisis
    Prescription :

    1. Bike x1
    2. Tripx1x200Km

Reason at Office: Unwell. Don’t want to complicate that shit !

So, that’s how I met your…… huh… wrong one.. So that’s how I went for that trip to Manchanabele Reservoir. I just packed my camera, the tripod and a look outside my balcony decide to take that rain jacket as well. Left home by 9.30 AM and started heading towards Mysore Road

Suddenly, all those problems you have just escape or am I running away : A thought to be revisited.

I reach Mysore road and make the first main turn from the main road . Around 10-12 Km in road, I get the first glimpse of the reservoir.

I make my way further and reach a gate. I enter the gate and a policeman comes out through his small Guards office. I ask him regarding the entry and he said there was no Entry. Bummer!
I ask him about the Dam, and he points me to go down the road. I think to myself “maybe some hope”. I drive down another 1 km circling a huge land possibly government property. I reach a small bridge. A small hustle somewhere in the water and there are people are just going about their usual mid-day business of catching fish.

I go down further and see the gate to the entry to the Dam closed. I enquired with the locals and they said that there is no entry to the DAM or the reservoir. Bummer ! So much for the solace and the mid-week crisis!
I decide to ride back to the security guard whom I had spoken with, however on the way in the middle there is spot, where I can see a gang of 5 teens, possibly from Bangalore getting out of their car and frolicking through a side way on to the land, heading towards the reservoir. I park my bike, unpack my tripod and take my camera and slowly follow the gang from a distance. After a brief 10 min walk, I reach a spot where we can see the reservoir, but this was the maximum we could go. This would have been the shortest trip or what!

I head back to my bike, pack all the things back to the bike and notice a woman, possibly a local in her 40s selling few snacks. I make her way towards her and she is eager for a sale. I buy a bottle of water and enquire regarding the nearby places or entry to the Dam. She confirms that there is no Entry and suggests me to head to Savandurga. I check on maps and its hardly 14Km. I deicde to make my way to Savandurga. I reach the Savandurga base point where there is a Temple. The Sree Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. Few devotees praying. A glance around the place and you can see Monkeys scattering here and there trying to find a morsel to fill their stomach.

I start my trek to Savandurga Peak. The entry is marked by some green vegetation but post that the whole trek is just a big rock.

I make my way up and I cross a significant portion , however I couldn’t continue further. I didn’t carry a bottle of water and I was in my Jeans. I turn around and see the Majestic View from Savan Durga

I decide to call it a day for trekking and decide to walk down as I didn’t have any water. I look back at the peak and tell her and myself that “we will meet again “. I trek down and am exhausted.

I get a bottle of water and drink almost the whole of it.

Next I decide to visit a place which a friend of mine suggested, which also happened to by nearby. It goes by the name Fever Pitch Basecamp. I mark it up on Google maps and head on over there. After many twists and turns I make it at the final turn towards the camp. Complete Kacha road, and a good opportunity to experience mine and Hannah’s prowess on these roads.
I must tell you the smile you get when you are standing on the footpegs and you cross a puddle of water on those kacha roads. It is truly priceless. I was laughing for that 1 -2 min and it was then when I realized that this trip was worth it.

I make my way to a camp next the camp I intended to go. The caretaker tells me that the other camp has closed. I ask him if I can just look around and rest for a bit. I see a small road going down towards the reservoir. And I head on there with my camera.
My friends, when I reached there, the only sounds I could hear was the small birds , few unusual calls of the big storks and probably a plane flying up in the sky. The river was so silent, All I could hear was few fish coming up and then going back down. It was so peaceful.

I sat there for some 30-45 min and then headed back.
I reached back on top where I parked my bike packed all of my gear and headed back to namma uru, Bengaluru, tired and weary, but with a day full of driving memories and a thought in my mind. “Is driving a means to just run away from all your problems. Or maybe it’s a solace so that we can gather ourselves and build the courage to face those problems. Maybe it’s time to get up for that jog at 5AM. Soon enough.”
