Default Suggestion for ride in monsoom time [Uttarakhand or maharashtra] ?

Hey fellows, im looking for some advice for a bike trip. Hope this is the right forum for it!
Some words about me: im 21yrs old student from Germany. Last year i traveled some months around in india - one of the very best times was riding around Leh with a Enfield! Pangong Lake n Nubra Valley was breathtaking! So im infected with the Enfield virus...

I needed to go back. So im back to india from 23th June to 9th July. After meeting some friends in mumbai i would like to do a trip - so here comes the question:
Ive got max. 10 days for a bike trip (including find & rent a bike) in the monsoon time!
    Option:
    A) Drive around maharashtra or maybe Goa. (rent bike in mumbai?) Visit places like Pune, Mahabaleshwar and discover new places. The relaxed and easy tour/ not sure how much rain i will bear in higher areas like hillstations.

    B) Fly from mumbai to chandigarh. Rent a bike and drive to direction of Shimla and discover Uttarakhand. Destinations could be Gangotri (400KM oneway from Chandigarh), Manali(300KM onewy from Chrdg.) The adventure tour/ could be stressfull bc not much time/ amazing nature and landscape!/

So please tell me about ur experience or what u would suggest me to do.
Im not sure about the facts like where and how much it will rain? / how available are bike rent in chandigarh/ mumbai? how is should prepare with clothing?
Or what are alternative routes to take in that time? (I also maybe take a friend with me on the bike)

Iv i would have time for a month i defintitly would go to Himalaya again ;-) in any way i will tell u guys what i did on my journey!

    Many greetings from germany!
    Malte

    Hi Malte

Firstly welcome to xBhp and India

Your best bet would be to ride in Maharashtra/ Goa belt. The monsoons make the place very beautiful and you can enjoy the coast and the hills. Though of course this depends on whether you are comfortable riding in the rain. Because rain it will by the bucketloads!

Uttrakhand will be a little more hectic, flying here, looking for rental and then riding out you will waste a day or two. But if you do choose this option, then fly to Delhi (rental bikes available) and Uttrakhand is pretty close. Though again if you hit the hills at that time, rain will most probably accompany you. And depending on which area of the hills you go to, the chances of landslides etc. increase tremendously. If not the element of danger, then the problem of getting stuck in someplace is real when you HAVE to get back to catch your flight.

Maharashtra/ Goa/ Karnataka it is in my opinion.

    Cheers and all the best

    Hey Hi Malte,

    Welcome to Xbhp & India

I think I saw you on BCMtouring also on road status thread, was it you?

I would suggest you to ride in Maharashtra coast line area and forest of Maharashtra become so beautiful in monsoon, hills becomes even more beautiful but as you need to catch return flight and hills are little risky in term of land slide and road closing issues in rainy season. So if you want to be safe and on time then Maharashtra is best for you otherwise hills are always cherry on the cake.

Ride safe and have a pleasant stay in India

    +1 to this

Here in Uttarakhand chances of having road blocks due to severe landslides are much more during rainy season, even in the lower regions also. As you have mentioned you have a fixed time duration to "discover the undiscovered" , I suggest you to opt for the Maharashtra. I have been there during July and December twice and found that Maharashtra is more fun to travel or to roam around during rainy season(when you have a time limit) than here in Uttarakhand.
But if you can manage to stay back for one or two days at a hill station only in case a landslide occur and road is blocked, than riding in hills and that too in rainy season would be a lifetime experience for you

As you are infected last time with the mountains then this time see the culture in Maharashtra.
    Mahatshtrian Foods, beaches, forts etx.

You ll love it. When you have seen the mountains and snow in leh/ladhak then noyhing beats those scenery.

So this time the option should be Maharshtra or Kerala.
