    Default Re: Endurance ride

This is my first triplog, hence please pardon me for the content. This was an endurance ride so no tadka in this as compared to other tlogs.

First of all I would like to thank god for creating me and giving a superb life. I would also like to thank my family members especially my fiance who supported me for this Endurance ride and last but not the least all of the Xbhp folks, all the saddlesore, leh trips and etc were all an inspiration for this endurance ride to materialize and a million thanks to CBR250R a.k.a Grimlock for not giving up on me at any point.

I was thinking of doing this endurance ride since a long time, and started to think more when @aargee completed the GQ ride on his CPR. Looking at the mammoth of the ride he did my confidence on the baby CBR increased a lot and I thought I will also do a endurance ride soon. I am not much of a tourer but I have done numerous mumbai-pune-mumbai rides without any fuss so thought of testing my limits even further. In simple words the idea was to cover near about 850-900kms in a day. I checked google maps and looked for a destination which would let me cover 850 odd kms both ways combined. So I selected pune-Dharwad-Pune which would let me cover 850 odd kms.

I planned to accomplish this ride on 01-01-2016 and started at 5 am@19799 kms on the ODO. Started from Wakad bridge and carried at a slow pace as it was dark and :numerous Ass!@#$ on highbeam from opposite direction. I stopped at 7:11 am somewhere on NH4 the odo telling 19921 kms covered. which means I was averaging 60kmph. I took a 15 min break and gave a thought that "will I be able to complete this task at hand" the answer came "Yes". Called up my near and dear ones to let them know about my whereabouts and in one piece, clicked few pics. Started riding again and was doing a constant 110km/hr and sometimes 120 whenever i found a straight stretch (Sorry babe, I broke your promise of speed limit of 100kmph). I had a very scary moment around 9 am something or so when a bullock cart came out of nowhere at a intersection. I was on the right most lane of the highway so i got shit scared had a small fish tail moment and shouted BC in my helmet so loudly that the bullock kart owner might have heard it Moving further, I stopped for a fuel and a piss break somewhere before kolhapur around 9:30 am and filled the baby up to the brim and gave her a 10 min rest and then moved on. Kept a steady 110-117 kmph speed and then reached a tollbooth. There was traffic so I thought I should do my breakfast at the near by tapri, had misal pav upto my brim and then rode off. I crossed the Maharashtra border and the roads were butter smooth when entered Karnataka (I guess it is justified why Karnataka has higher road tax, my personal opinion). I increased my speed and was continuously doing 120-125kmph and at a certain stretch I was doing even 135-140 for few seconds where 160kmph was a joke. At this point I wished I had more power, then got a small jerk as if the bike heard my comment about more power, then I told her baby, I love you and I won't replace you ever then she kept riding fine At around 11:45 am I stopped for break as my buttocks were completely numb, clicked the photo of the sign board where it said Dharwad 87 kms away, It was a sigh of relief that only a little bit is left for one side of the journey, Informed my dear ones through message that I am doing fine. Started riding again at speeds of 120kmph and reached a point where the ODO telling 452 kms covered it was near the village AGADI roughly around 12:45pm.

I turned around and stopped at a near by tree for a cool spot, had electoral powder and stretched my body for a while and then started off again. Kept a steady pace of around 120kmph and I reached belagavi around 3:25pm and got a huge cramp in my right leg and on the right hand. I stopped right there and when i tried to get off the bike for some rest. I was not able to as I was so tired that I would have fallen on the ground right there (not exaggerating). Somehow managed to get off the bike and sat near a tree under shade, drank a bottle of electoral powder and then was sitting calm near the bike and rethinking upon the strategy to use to cover the remaining distance. After 15-20 min of break, I started again at speeds of 100kmph, the wind noise was so much in my helmet (Mt blade raceline) that I couldn't bear it much. Hopefully I had reached a big hotel by the name Kaveri. I asked for Cotton buds from the hotel owner to subdue the wind noise and he said he don't have it. Sad faced, I came out of the hotel then a old age couple asked me where i was coming from and where I am headed now. Informed them and then I asked them if they have cotton buds with them and they were gracious enough to hand me some cotton from their first aid kit. I plonked them in my ears and then rode off again. With lesser wind noise I was very happy and was also feeling less tired started again at a pace of around 125kmph and reached kolhapur around 4:15 pm, had a fuel stop there and rode off again. My body was in very much pain when I left kolhapur. At this point I even thought that I should call it a day and stop t a near by guest house or hotel and then go home next day, but my mind was determined enough and soon a voice came, you can do it. Don't give up so soon only 230 kms more. With my mind supporting me and my will to complete the task I rode off again and had another scary moment where a maruti 800 came in my lane just sparing inches to hit me. Luckily he did not touch me (thank you sir). With body not willing to go further, I stopped 67 kms before Satara and cried that my body is not supporting me, how can I reach safely now, because one wrong thing and I will be in third world. I called up my mom and spoke to her for few minutes and she said "don't worry, you are my strong boy. Ho jaayega. Bus dhyaan se chalana" (Thanks Maa). I started off again at speeds of 115kmph and reached satara by 7 pm. I took a small pee break and drank the rest of the remaining electoral powder and then started again.

It was dark now, so I had to keep my speed in control and kept a steady 85-90 kmph and reached pune arounud 8:45 pm and shouted Hell yeah!!! inside my helmet . clicked pic of the ODO showing 20707 kms. Got inside home, informed all my dear ones, opened up the laptop. posted my victory then had dinner and then slept.

The Machine : CBR250R a.k.a Grimlock, At any point in time he did not show any signs of fatigue. I kept on boil for 115kmph all day long and he never showed signs of tiredness. I am very happy and proud that I did not make a bad choice in selecting CBR250R as my accomplice wherever I go. I literally have enormous respect for this machine. AS suggested by @Divya Sharan i should have taken clutch and accelerator cable along, I gambled and did not take any spares and luckily my gamble paid off very nicely. Kudos to HONDA for creating this GEM of a engine. Even if you are less on power, I am not selling you baby Thanks GRIMLOCK for sustaining these 906 kms.

The Man: He started off very nicely in morning but started to giveup while coming back home, but his determination and will power helped him do this, Thanks to you Sanjay

The Roads of Maharashtra : these roads are in pure shit condition as out of nowhere a pot hole will give you a visit.

The roads of karnatak : Superb Road, not even once I ranted on these roads.

The Learning : how to keep calm, do not loose patience, even if things not going your way keep cool. Take frequent breaks, ride only upto the speed in which you are capable. Do not push the bike beyond your capabilities as the results will be very dirty.

All the saddlesore folks, leh riders and endurance riders you have all my respect as I know now that how much of a task it is to complete several hundred kilometers. Salute to all.

I want to upload pics to satisfy the text I have written, please help. I did read this http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/forum-an...-tutorial.html thread but is there any other way ? If this is the only way then I will upload the picture later in the day.

Thanks to the people supporting me and thanks for reading this boring tlog without any tadka.

Do I have what it takes to call myself as a tourer ?

    Cheers,
    Sanjay

Nice start! Welcome to the Touring dimension!

You can either upload image links through Picasa (or other hosting services) or directly attach them here by clicking the 13th icon in the 2nd row above your reply box.
Now, on the touring aspect, all of us keep learning every time we ride. One needs to have the right mentality and attitude on the road.

It's never the destination that matters, but the experience! Never shy from taking an early break if the body or bike complains. On the contrary, one can even pass the pre-decided place of stop if s/he is feeling good enough about the overall thing.

Please post pics soon and we expect to read more experiences of yours in the future as well.

P.S - Most importantly, slow down a bit and you'll be less tired. Get yourself 3M earplugs + a balaclava.
