I might be able to get leaves this year. Would love to go leh and videos of the kishtwar route are just awesome. I would love to tag along with you guys.
However, is the route doable around early june?
I must also admit that i have been out of practice of riding on broken hill roads and the bike is also due for its 10K service. I have been changing the engine oil regularly, and coolant was changed once but nothing else has been touched. Any pinters on what all i should get checked?

Is there need of some modifications to the bike for doing something like this. e.g. new tyres, seat cushion, saddle bags, sump guard, etc. ?

Yes we are hopeful of it being opened by that time.

    Get the general maintainenece done.
Replace sparkplug or any other consumables as the need be or as recommended by asc , chkout maintainenece schedule of your bike in user manual.

Is it carburetted or FI ?.

Tyres don't need replacement so soon but just general inspection for cracks or excessive wear and tear.

If you feel comfortable on stock seat no point in getting it modified.

Do keep a spark plug as spare.

PM me your email id if you want a complete list of things to carry we have created.

You are also welcome to join us in a offline meet we will be doing before ride to firm up the plan and discuss any last minute queries concerns.

I assume you already have riding gear and a safe helmet. If not that's the first thing to acquire.

Hopefully you already noticed that we plan to start on June 1.

Like i said i have done horrible hill roads to no roads and the tyres have lots of small cuts, pic here

After reading a lot of reviews here, i had even purchased Michelin Pilot Street 110/70 R17 for the front. Havent installed it yet though.
I dont think it will be a good choice for ladakh though.

If you feel comfortable on stock seat no point in getting it modified.
Reason that im asking is its not comfortable at all for long rides. Coupled with the stiff suspension, its really taxing on the backside.

Do keep a spark plug as spare.

    Hey bud,

Since it's a carburettor, you may want to learn how to adjust modifying the carburettor setting to consume less fuel. NS has been known to flood fuel into it, happens with carburettors on high altitudes. I think the rest of the gang will be able to help with everything else.

    Happy riding

Don't worry. I have good hands on with tuning carburetor besides mechanics at leh will do it for 50 to 100₹.

They insert a piece of wire in carburetor jet to minimize fuel flow so as to match fuel with low oxygen levels apt for the local environment.

Other way is to set the afr screw to lean and pull out the air filter.

    1st option is more preferred.

My bike is FI so no such issues of manual tuning.
