  • Bike- Camera mount solutions - How To?

    Hello friends.

    I need some help guys.

I always wanted to record my tours on camera while am riding.
I currently own Nokia N95 which is quite good for recording VDOs. I m also plannin to buy a good digi cam soon though I use my brother's Canon SX 100 for my long ride photo shoots. I own Yamaha R15.

    1) Can anyone tell me how can one safely record while riding? In my case plz consider my cell phone cam.

    2) Plz suggest me a way in which i can safely fix the Cam on my bike for recording.

    3) I have seen a few camera mounts in pics but never found one in Mumbai. Are there any shops in Mumbai/Pune which sells such camera mounts?

What r the alternate ways of recording without any camera mounts? Anyone tried this before?

I need it very badly because I'll soon be going for a long ride to Bangalore from Mumbai. The road is damn good and i'll b riding at quite high speeds. It'll b fun recording stuff so that later on i can share it with u guys and others.

So plz do the needful and suggest me ways in which i can record stuff while on the move. Also suggest me any shop which sells such stuff.

    Thanx in advance.
I m posting a few pics of camera mounts which i found on the internet.
    Plz take a look.

        No problem buddy.

I remember such a thread was present even on the 'old' xBhp. I would also love to get one of these camera mounts. Are these even available in India?
        :)

Even i doubt if these r available in India or not..
I was in search of these since long time but unavailability of the same made me lose interest for some time. Today i was going thru Ken's post in tourer's section. He has used similar kind of mount for his R1.
I think he has imported it or ordered online.
I'll PM him regarding the same. Plz share any info if u get hold of.

I have been quite interested in a mount for myself. After some research, I found that the local engineering workshop is a much better place to go to.

This is what I am getting done for myself. I have a Unicorn

First, check to see if the nuts on the left and right mirror stem yolks are in a clear line of sight with each other. That is, if a flat iron bar can be fixed at the yolk of the 2 mirrors. On a unicorn, the nuts are just above the brake fluid reservoir on the right side, and its clear on the left as well.

Drill a hole and make sure that the mirror stems go thru them. Make a hole in the middle big enough for a 1/4" screw to go thru, perhaps a few holes along the bar would be good.

            Or just order one from:

I'll get a few pictures of my "design" during the weekend sometime.

Currently, I just record the video with the mobile in my helmet just in front of my nose. N70 is the cellphone I have.

There are suction pods available, they basically stick to any smooth not-too-curvy surface, like a car windshield. But i dont think they will suit well considering the less surface area to play with on India bikes.

If the suction pods are of low quality, u end up with a fallen/damaged camera. I wouldn't risk that.

I would rather screw it up securely to avoid such risks.

You can hand a full grown adult with one of the Manfrotto suction pods provided the surface on which it is stuck can hold that weight.

Well that surely is the cheapest n easiest option..but that wont work buddy.. considering the high speed of bike and thus the strong wind flow, the tape wont hold the cam for long. And keeping the cam in helmet will surely distract u while riding. In both the cases u'll end up paying more attention towards ur cam more than riding.

Well it sounds good but point is availability.. Will check if such mounts r available or not..thanx anyways..

Well local engineering shops will surely give u such mounts custom made if given measurements to them but again there's one more point to look at. They will simply give u the mount. But while riding there'll b so much vibration and if u fit the cam without proper packing u'll end up with damaged cam and distorted recording. That's the catch in purposely designed cam mounts and localy made cam mounts.

Ketan, please check the mounts at Motorcycle Camera Mounting Solutions - Video Cockpit Mounts | Pashnit.com

One of our xBhp members in Hyd (Kriss) has got the sports bike camera mount (on fuel tank lid) on his Pee200.

The tank bag solution shown in the pic is possibly worth a try.

Also, the one from Camera Mounts @ RAM Mount....

RAM® Mounts is the industry leader in rugged motorcycle and car phone mounts, rugged tablet mounts for trucks, forklift mounts, and more. Find the perfect device mount for your car, truck, motorcycle, plane, forklift, snowmobile & many more.

would be a direct fit on the R15. There's that thread (closed with a rubber) beside the brake fluid cylinder on RHS handlebar. But, not sure if the view would be clear or if the visor would come in the pics!

                          All the best!

You could order a camera mount off eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices, a fixed one would reach your doorsep for 3,000 INR if not lesser, adjustable would be some 1,000 bucks more. Just type camera mount in the search bar.
I have used one on my Thunderace, and it had no vibrations whatsoever.
