right .... am doing a lot of research on helmet safety. This time I wont be making a wrong decision by merely getting a costly helmet with a international safety certification.

But if the PRS guys say that the SparX warranty scheme is valid in India too... then am game for Sparx

        • ^^^ Chetan, I understand ur concerns , but just think about it, how well will a VEGA/Studds helmet hold up at a high speed crash ? (touch wood- shld not happen but still)
The price you pay for the helmet is far less than the price of ur head

Also, since ur an advocate of Daijya , can you please give me any proof/weblink or smething that Daijya is a Marushin brand ? Dont get me wrong here, it might just be my ignorance

Abut sparx, we all know its a well to go brand and i believe its a good deal , I have seen snehs helmet so i am a fan of it , my next one for sure.
          Read this :
          SparX S-07 helmet review - Sportbikes.net

again, I am not sure how true is this but I have only seen Daijya reviews on Indian sites.
Aprilia RS 125 or Honda CB400 Vtec ..... which one will it be ??? I think its gonna be NINJA ZX 6R :-)

Yup I agree... Daijya is a very controversial brand. And I would say its not-a-Marushin-made-helmet. And moreover, am no advocate of the Daijya brand, I just like its construction and quality (it saved my head too .. so would a SparX... and for that matter even a Vega).

I must say this: Does it make sense buying a 6-8k helmet after every crash? I feel even a ISI certified 1000rs Vega helmet will save my head @ speeds of 75-80kmph.

You should wear a new Daijya and a new SparX helmet and tell me the difference or read that old bike india magazine helmet comparison review.....

Btw... I never said SparX is a bad helmet... its an excellent brand, and provides excellent protection, but still it has to be changed after 1 crash, so if SparX does provide a free replacement in India for accident damaged helmets... I will get one immediately. Thanks for the link, but I have read that review earlier .

Also... I saw some disturbing reviews down in that link you gave, as they say: "its a good helmet for that cost". I dont seem to be satisfied with such a statement. Also the PRS guy said that, the SparX is almost half as good as KBC when it comes to safety and quality, hence the costs are less. So am thinking twice... thrice....

i do not know abt those but i saw a video and schuberth helmet got a dent in the shell at 30 - 35kmph in there lab test!! i would rather go with ISI mark after my present helmet. i am sure even a schuberth would crack on speed of 60-70kmph, better stick to indian brands for city riding and ocassional highways!

Greedy young man! You buy a helmet so that it gets damaged in an accident thereby saving whatever lil was inside the helmet! I'm sure no company will replace a 'accident damaged' helmet. ARAI recommends you get it checked with the ARAI dealership whether the helmet is fit for further use. if it isn't all you can do is buy a new one. As far as our motherland is concerned, I'm sure the best thing you can do is buy, crash, dispose, buy, crash, dispose and so on

Sparx is half good as KBC, would be a very vague statement I presume. The cost reduction wouldn't be in the department of safety but more so in the fit and finish and comfort levels. Just my opinion..

The SparX website says so .. if only that works in our motherland.

True... there wont be much of a difference in the safety levels... but then 6-8k is a big amount to be invested on a helmet in India.... and one should expect extremely high quality of fit/comfort and finish levels. Nevertheless... am eyeing on SparX right now .

So am left with the normal brands... coz investing 6-8k after every crash is like more than the cost of bike repairs and medical expenses .... is there no helmet insurance as such??
chetan I would definitely like to comment on this one.
Well, we have both the things..First we want a really good helmet that can save us from crashes and let our brains feel safe inside and on the other hand a fear of a damaged helmet which we bought it by saving our salaries.
Well all the big brands are for sure superb in terms of quality and safety.
also using a different helmet for touring(usually a costly one) can also face damages by just falling of the bike/from your hand etc.

well, everyone has their own thoughts before buying a helmet whether its a reasonable one or a costly one.
Well, if you have a good budget and aren't scared of a fall then definitely suggest to go for KBC, those are some really nice lid out there and they start from 7k+...a very stable lid with a strong padding and a definitely a strong lid in the market.

If you wanna go for a reasonable one then I suggest not to go for a 7k+ nor 1k+...rather you can think uponAGV(mpa) 2200/-, vega(2500/-)...I mean these ones are neither costly nor so cheap...and they can be used for touring as well I guess and much reliable in terms of quality.
                    its all about CC...

                    • It is not compulsory that a helmet once dropped loses all its impact absorbing strength. To know the real extent of damage, one would have to get an X-Ray done! But since we cannot take the chance, the manufacturers ask us not to bang it against walls etc. or discard it in case it has been dropped.
IMO a good option would be getting a Vega/Studds helmet for daily use, which can hold really well in city conditions where the speed would not be much. Dropping it once or twice since we use it daily would also not hurt us or the helmet too much! In case of a crash, since it would be in the city&not at a very high speed, even if it is not 100% strong as a new one, it would surely take the impact at a lower speed (I don't mean to say use it roughly, drop it as many times as you want, but still, knocking it once or twice against a wall or even dropping it accidentally shouldn't have us worried). After that anyways we would need to discard it.
For touring, where any impact that happens would have happened at maximum speed, we can use another helmet, which can be a high-end branded one, with maximum safety.
                      Quench my thirst with gasoline!

very true, even i liked the fitting very much n its just 1350 gm which is much less compared to GPone

although the glass is tinted it can be used during the night.........earlier i thought it wont work during night but it proved me wrong. no doubt the visibility reduces a bit, but it is still usable during night riding and is much better than the bieffe which i used earlier ....glare was the major problem with that one.

Till my Ninja arrives, the helmet-waala has given me an "Index" helmet to use, saw and used it for 1st time. Been using it for 2 days, Thai-made, Excellent padding and ventilation, just a hint of whistling above 100kmph, other than that very stable, now am falling in love with this "Index" .
