I am not sure if you like the suggestion, but anyways........................

    Pulsar 220 S

You can also replace the front headlamp with a round one if you so like.

    thanks ppl... so many replies!
many of my friends have RE bikes. i love their styling. i am just not comfortable with the weight and the fact that they are sometimes unreliable.

i had not thought of replacing the front head lamps. can i do that in any bike? that would really open up a lot of choices. i still dont like the bulging fuel tanks and so am not sure of the many 150+ cc bikes available in the market.

i have only test/driven the shine. i guess splendor+ will be like splendor and i have driven it for 10 years!

    what about the avenger220?

Weight of RE you will learn to handle them once you start using them Avenger 220 is nothing but a detuned pulsar engine what i dont understand is bike makers abroad show difference in tuning when an engine is used for a cruiser or street bike as,
Street Bike : More Power , less Torque(relatively to the cruiser version)
Cruiser : Less Power (In comparision to street models ) but torquey
See what BAL has done with Avy 220 just lessened both power and torque in the same engine fit it on a different body call it a cruiser
Its like painting a tiger brown and putting vegetable before it so that people will think its a donkey BAL do make a proper cruiser ; One thing Ilike much with the Avy is its comfortable riding position Yet the pillion seat is too cramped ; Test ride and then take a call

i guess you are right about the weight issues. what is it about the maintenance? i keep hearing so many conflicting stories about it. i am quite confident about its durability. i think RE makes very durable bikes. how about reliability? i am not much of a bike person; don't know of parts and their workings. so i am always a bit skeptical about it stopping mid way.

    bikes i have in mind

I strongly disagree to this!!! Either who said this is not an owner of RE or does not know the FACT!!! The modern UCE is much reliable & most niggling issues from their very first models have been addressed to certain extent. If you've any questions, then PM TARC in this forum, who has done more than 22K in an year in his C5. He knows to straighten issues from fact!!!

Durability : If maintained well it will run till your grandson learns biking (may be after that too if kept on good hands)
    Reliability : It's completely reliable
Stopping Midway : Mostly your clutch may get worse under sharp gearing but then to change the clutch is not a difficult job if seen once you could do it yourself

    • since you don't like the styling of modern bikes. and
    • i suggest any bike less than 150 CC is not practically suitable for long rides or too many highway runs......for obvious reasons..
considering above 2 constraints......only RE350 and Avenger remains....so you can choose any one....both are good bikes...and both have merits and demerits....
