    Extra 8k - 10k and you'll have the Duke... Don't miss out on it because of an extra 10k.. Lots of advanced technology ( Upside Down WP Suspension, Trellis Frame, Aluminium Swingarm, FI etc) in the Duke to justify that extra amount. If you can't stretch your budget, I guess you need to decide between the 200NS and R15.

    As you are riding it within city limits, do take note of R15's riding position. I didn't feel comfortable on it, however lot many do. So do a proper TD and ensure that you can live / get used to the riding posture with lots of gear shifts within city limits.

    Do let us know what you decide upon.

    in city R15 is strictly no!! NS is purely mixed with city as well as highway rides.
    As you want something for city than logically or practically it's NS. But do remember NS too performs same like R15 under lower rpms. These both have powers on higher rpms. But NS200 is more maneuver in city than R15.

    Actually your all concept of speed,Redlining, city goes with Duke, but you can't stretch a bit more of 10k so NS.But surely you will miss Duke's power and features in city!!

    Its ultimately the Yamaha R15, else your budget could have never been extended to 1.3Lacs . Even the CBR150 is near about you never considered it, coz you want an R15.

    Just get it and it will never disappoint you in anyways. The best in Handling and built quality in India. With the 200NS you will be just another biker on road and its not same in the case with an R15. You will amazed to see how famous you are on road with your R15. Mileage wise your wish 35+ is granted faithfully. So dont think twice there is ample time left for you to buy a bike like the 200NS or RE350 etc later, but never miss the R15 in your teenage.

    R15 needs a forward leaning posture suitable for tracks, and highways. In city where you need hell a lot of visibility this posture will be challenging. NS would do all good to you, since you got your budget much ahead that, I would suggest you to have a look at CBR 150R and the KTM Duke. TD them, I am sure you will fall for one of these very easily.
    Its crime to ride a car alone, so I ride bike :).

The bike had 3km on odo. A mechanic explained a few features of the bike to me and gave me a receipt that could be presented at the petrol pump next door for 1 litre of petrol. Filled the 1 litre as I wasnt sure how much gas was in the tank and then tanked-up with Shell Super.

    Engine & Mechanicals:

    The engine on the NS has a strange, clattery sound at idle. Like there are loads of loose parts within. Most of the sound seems to be from the engine head. Once revved, it sounds unique! I like my bikes smooth and silent and the NS delivers on both counts. There were a few vibes experienced from the handlebars and footpegs at first, but it's really smoothened out post ~150km on odo. Morning starts aren't too much of a problem, the bike starts at first crank but strangely shuts off after about 8-10 secs of idling. The manual suggests giving the bike a little throttle or using the choke for the first start of the day and it does work. The bike idles at 1400 - 1500rpm. Once out on the road, the engine feels smooth and power delivery is linear. Gearshifts are a surprise from Bajaj, being pretty clicky and accurate, although it's not as precise as a Yamaha gearbox. The clutch is well weighted, without being tiring in heavy traffic. Running-in this bike is no joke as it pulls effortlessly and you constantly have to keep an eye on the rpms as the super sensitive throttle can have you above 50kmph in no time, and with just a few millimeters of throttle open. I've never felt the radiator run, even in bumper-to-bumper traffic, this is probably because Bangalore has been quite cool recently and most of my riding has been in the evening or night.

    Bajaj's run-in instructions are crap and won't run-in your engine well. A brand new engine needs moderate throttle inputs so as to provide enough pressure for the piston rings to seat against the cylinder walls. I've been keeping it under 5k rpm with constant varying of throttle and engine braking whenever possible. By engine braking, I mean accelerating slowly in a gear and then letting go of the throttle till the bike slows a fair bit and then accelerating again (I usually do this in 4th, 5th and 6th gears). Post 100km on odo I've been taking it to 6k rpm ocassionally and gradually.

    Although the engine is smooth, different parts of the bike have started developing vibes - the brake pedal, the grab rails, visor etc. But it is very much tolerable and pretty much disappear once past 4k rpm. Will have to get these checked and tightened during 1st service.

    Braking:

    Brakes took about 50km to offer feel and braking power. The front disk provides decent feel and pretty good retardation. The rear disk doesn't have much feel and I accidentally locked up the rear wheel at slow speeds on two occassions. Overall the braking is reassuring and I'm waiting to see how it fairs at speeds close to and above 100kmph.

    Ergonomics, Handling, Suspension & Tyres:

    Handling is extremely neutral and with the extremely comfortable riding position makes the NS a breeze to ride, both for everyday commuting as well as long stints in the saddle. Although I've ridden my R15 extensively, the handling on the NS felt much more stable and confidence inspiring, especially in bumpy corners. I use every corner, minor and major, to practice my cornering lines and skills, and the NS leaves a big biggg smile on my face. The tyres are pretty good although being TVS, and are more than adequate for a regular rides. I haven't had the opportunity to try any aggressive cornering, but for the stuff I've done so far, the tyres have held up beautifully. Suspension is quite stiff, which is expected as I found my bike having been set at the second stiffest setting. Feel and cornering precision is sharp, but will adjust the monoshock to a softer setting in interest of better ride comfort.

    The rider's saddle is extremely comfortable. Although the pillion seat is comfy as well, the seat itself is very hard and coupled with the stiff suspension setting, the few pillion riders I've had have complained of minor butt pain. I'm happy nevertheless as I'm always going the be in the rider's seat and I don't like riding with a pillion anyway. The pillion seat is very easy to remove and put back, definitely a boon for someone who reaches for his tools and bike papers regularly.

    Switchgear & Lighting:

    Switchgear is functional, and I don't have any issues here. Even the indicator switch, which took a while to get used to, is now working smooth and easy. The blue-backlight on the switches looks good only in complete darkness, otherwise they look cheap. Luckily they complement the deep blue shade of my baby. Headlight is pretty adequate, although for serious touring I'd recommend an upgrade to better bulbs or a HID + Projector setup. Indicators and brake lights are bright and very visible. I'm planning on getting the KTM Duke's LED indicators for better looks and am researching headlight upgrades.

    Fuel Economy:

    I tanked up with Shell Super and have been riding mostly in the city. After filling in the complimentary 1 litre from Bajaj, the bike swallowed 10.53 litres of petrol. I had to switch to reserve at 380km on odo, so the bike seems quite efficient with an average of approximately 37kmpl. Will have to tank-up again to calculate precise mileage. 35kmpl is more than acceptable from this bike, and anything more will be a happy bonus.

    Verdict:

    The NS has truly amazed me and has won my love, admiration and trust in just 2 days. The bike's looks, feel and character has me completely head-over-heels in love with her and I don't miss my R15 one bit! I use the bike for my daily commute to office and on weekends to explore distant tarmac. I will post here about any issues, experiences or foibles I encounter with this truly magnificent motorcycle.

    If I am not wrong the owner had modified his R15 to R165 and ended-up with a P200NS. The case is familiar with most R165 owners.

    Riding the new R15 version 2.0 and P200NS, I can say R15 is much smoother with a refined mill and the gear shifts were more sharper than any other bike I tried (Includes Hondas). All that the 200+CC bikes have is the bottom end torque and upright seating posture which grabs more attention from senior bikers like most XBPians. I assume (never tried NS on highway) that both the bike will perform more or less the same on Highways. I guess the thread starter has few years left to think about comfort and now all he needs is a sporty ride.

    Also, I wish the thread starter not to get deviated from the R15v2 and enjoy his teenage as Sporty as he can and also the status that the R15 is going to get him amongst his friends (LE white, tops them all).

    @Thread starter, don't get misguided by the point 'wrist pain' on R15. Just be regular with your workouts and all the posts about pain 'here n there' will just be a bullsh*t to you.

    @Thread Starter: please remember, while reading the 200NS ownership experience of 'neoakshay', that he moved to 200NS from R15 Version 1 (not the improved version 2). I am sure you would be aware of it but still, R15 V1 had suffered from low bottom/mid range torque and had a shorter wheelbase than R15 V2 among other things. R15 V2 has more/improved torque at bottom/mid range so that riding in city is noticeably easier compared to the earlier R15s. However, neoakshay's R15 was modified for more power. Also, R15 V2 has a longer aluminium swing-arm (similar to R125) which has made R15 V2 more stable than the previous R15s and hence R15 V2 is more confidence inspiring when at lean or corner carving. The new R15 also has a bigger rear disc brake for overall better braking performance. Not to mention that R15 V2 could arguably be the hottest Indian motorcycle right now. Arguably!

    **So basically, for someone who needs to decide between R15 and P200NS it's a waste of time reading a comparison between the old R15 V1 against P200NS as posted above**

    However, P200NS beats R15 on performance/price combination. Also, NS is an absolutely new Pulsar that is as different from any previous pulsars as chalk and cheese. It's a really good motorcycle and it's value for money quotient is hard to beat. It comes with a perimeter frame like that in R15 and an all new engine based on KTM 200. Also, as already pointed out, NS is comfier for both rider and pillion. So it all depends on what you want - a forward leaning mini sportbike or a comfortable street bike.

    let's cut it short, a no nonsense talk, go for R15 V2. There is nothing like it's bad in city and all, you will feel some pain in your wrists in the initial 500 kms but you will get habitual to riding posture. This thing maneuvers good in btw traffic, ya definitely not like naked's but best in fully faired categories. Rest decision is yours.

    I was a GS150R owner(still have it with me).
    Wanted a sporty bike. Initially I was confused between CBR250R, R12V2 and Duke.

    After test riding all, the other 2 bikes din't give me the sporty feel of R15 and settled on R15. Got WGP LE on 12th July, Done 800km already
    Riding it in Bangalore heavy traffic and trust me it is not that difficult. I got adjusted to the riding position in less than a week.
    But it's true that you can't take this bike in all those narrow gaps between vehicles.

    And about the rear seat, my friends are scared of sitting pillion especially gals.

    Can't comment about the top end, as it due for the first service.
    So far it is awesome experience, waiting for it to get better after few services, then I can push my bike to the limits.

    Absolutely!! I don't understand why a street bike is always been compare to a Sports bike??

    I never felt of any such problem my friend. I Zic Zac through Traffics too, especially from those two vehicle gaps, of just say R15 gaps. infact i feel problem when my bike is Standstill, while in motion it's never a problem for me atleast!


    Hey XTC, Where are you from last 28-7??
    R15 is all about choice! Sports bike feel and awesome looks, Where as NS is city plus tourer bike, with bigger engine than R15.
