  • First Bike, Confused Between POWER of 200NS and SAFETY of RTR 180 ABS

    Hii Guys,

I am new to Xbhp and this is my first post here.

I am planning to buy a new bike. My Budget is around RS 1 Lakh. Initially I thought of buying duke 200. Then later I decided not to spend that much of money. I was very much impressed with ABS bike of TVS. (The Cheapest ABS bike in India ). Now its the time to take the final decision and I am confused Between Pulsar 200NS and TVS Apache RTR 180 ABS. I have ridden both the bikes. Felt Like 200 NS is bit Heavy and hard to handle in low speed. But I like the Apache. It was easy to ride.

Now my question what should I choose..? The 200NS for the Power or RTR 180 ABS for the SAFETY. what do you think ? Which is more important The POWER of The SAFETY.

    Is ABS that usefull ..?

I can Afford both the bikes. and I am not worried about the handling 200NS, Because from my experience I can say that whatever bike we use we will be comfortable with it within few days.

Even if it is my first bike I have a riding experience of 5-6 years. I will be using this bike for daily office commuting. Around 30 KM per day.

Will be going for long trips (300-400 km a day) at least once in every two months.

Guys , Please help me to solve this confusion.

Also tell me if there is any other bike which is better than my options in this budget.

Is there is any New bike launching soon in this price bracket..?

    Thanks in Advance
    Akhil

    Query Approved

Depending on your height. If you are short, avoid the 200NS and if you are too tall avoid the Apache. Both bikes are great and have their quirks and flaws.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Go with NS, it has good brakes. And the power will blow you off. Do not wait for new launches because they never happen on time.

Re: First Bike, Confused Between POWER of 200NS and SAFETY of RTR 180 ABS

          Hi There,

I would choose 200ns for the power, split seat, liquid cooled engine, 4 valves, monoshocks and 6 speed transmission. Additionally it is quite good for long rides barring the hard seat and slightly short gearing. But it is amazing to be cruising on 5th and 6th gears.

Apache will not match up with 200ns on above segments. But it is fun to ride within the city limits. You can breeze through city traffic. Highways it might not give you so much fun. If you are a sane rider you really don need Abs. Also the brakes are quite good on the 200ns.

Based on ur query I would suggest you to go for 200ns.

My vote would be for 200NS, it is gives you most bang for the buck. And if you are an experienced rider, you wont feel the need to have ABS.

Pulsar 200NS gives you liquid cooled engine, six speed gear box and 23 Bhp, and is fun to ride in city as well as good for highways.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks for all of your suggestions,

But it looks like I could get both Power and Safety together by spending a little more.

None of you guys were voted for Apache, so I was also thinking like I will proceed with 200 NS.

One of my friend is working in Bajaj. I talked to him about this. But he said a fully faired version of 200 NS is going to launch this month (25th or 26th) which has ABS. and he said it will cost around 1.30 lakhs on road. All over internet this bike is called 200 SS. But my friend is saying Bajaj may Name it as 200 FF (fully faired) in India. So now my mind is saying to wait till the launch of this bike. What you guys think about this..?

Appreciate your importance for safety also. If your rides were limited to city I would have suggested the RTR but since your rides will also consist of long trips, I suggest don't go for the RTR 180. While ABS is a good feature of the bike, it has problems which make it less highway friendly. One is TVS tires, which can changed later however. The main reason I say it is not highway friendly is its small stature. I have never felt comfortable maintaining high speeds say above 90kmph on the RTR 180. To add to the woes, the bike has vibrations (which has been addressed to some level in the newer version).

NS is excellent on the highways. Has decent torque for city stints also. NS has its own problems but nothing major. Refer the ownership thread. My vote is for the NS. Not to discourage your need for ABS in a bike, but can I say safety depends mostly on your riding habits?

However, if you are waiting for the SS (not FF), you will get ABS (hope so). Also another Pulsar namely AS200 will be launched. Even after the release don't hurry and buy the newer versions. Specifications maybe slightly different. Wait for problems to creep up in the newer bikes and then decide between NS, SS and AS (and whatever else is in your mind then). If you need a bike now, go for the NS.

                        Hello there,
Seems you are in the same situation as of me. I love the RTR design and power, but many reviews about TVS engine quality and Vibes is making me confused. As far as 200NS, its been a new gen pulsar with lots of good opinions than all the other previous versions. But still, does an ABS option would be available in 200NS? Some say it might make way into 200 SS or AS, but not the current 200NS..?

Experts, would you please shed a light on this? With ABS and more grippy tires..200NS would be a pretty nyc catch, i don't mind the carb anyway.

Not sure if you are aware, booking for 200SS has commenced. It comes with ABS as standard. Just check with your local Bajaj dealer if its true. I read it here -

There is a good news brother, My friend (Service engineer in Bajaj) who went for the training of 200 SS on Monday said that the bike comes with ABS and FI as standard. He has no info about the pricing of the bike. He said it looks heavy.

Today Bajaj officially revealed that the name of this bike will be RS 200 not 200 SS. I think RS stands for Racing sport.

Now my confusion is should I book it as soon as the launch or should I wait for the reviews to come...

According to the info in bajaj Facebook page this is gonna be fastest pulsar yet. Which means there is definitely an upgrade in the engine. 200 NS and duke 200 has same engine, Duke has FI and NS has carb. But Duke has more power. Reading all together I think its gonna get the same engine of duke 200 . Because | 200 NS engine + FI + Bit More Power = Duke 200 Engine | just a wild guess guys, I could be wrong.

No brother, Its not true. The booking is not yet started officially. But I read in internet that few dealers are started the booking unofficially.

According to the info I got the official booking will only start from the date it is launching.

The bike is not gonna come to all dealers. Only around 500 units are manufactured in 1st batch. In Bangalore it will only come to two dealers.

All the Above information is tentative, But it is provided by my friend who works in Bajaj as a service engineer (He got training for this bike this on Monday )

According to him the launch date will be 25th or 26th of this month.
