Question Suzuki Gixxer SF or Pulsar 150 AS

    Hey Folks,
I m planning to buy my first bike at the range of 1 lakh.
And after all my googling i came upto 2 options Pulsar 150 AS & Gixxer SF.
But i am highly confused which one to choose.
Both the bikes are great as far as i know.
My priorities are milage n low maintainance plus occassionly i might trip so shouldn't be a nightmare to my bums and back.
    Thanks

For looks (as you said) go SF.
    For everything else go AS!
    Regardless, Life shall go on.

    Hello friends.
I am looking for a new bike too. I am from Panaji, Goa. I am 5'9", 78 kg and my riding is 95% in city but not in b to b traffic. I plan to go for long weekend rides once I get a new bike. I am using RTR 160 at present and planning to change due to some issues that i faced in first year of ownership itself. No issues with engine performance or vibrations but too much of rusting withing first few months. I need a bike that looks good and can cruise at 80-90 kmph at ease for decent time.

I wanted to go for ABS version of Apache but I fear that RTR 180 may also have same rusting issue. Next Bike with ABS is CBR250, out of my budget. RS200 by Bajaj has single wheel ABS but I am yet to lock front wheel of my RTR 160 despite trying hard. Rear locks very easily. So i am not sure how useful single wheel ABS is + I do not like looks of the fairing of RS 200.

I did test ride of Pulsar 200 AS today. I did not like it at all. My RTR has lesser vibrations than AS 200 (surprising but true, may be the brand new bike that they gave for so called test ride had that issue. I asked them to give me a used bike for test ride but they did not have one). Besides vibrations, the bike felt quite heavy. Did not like exhaust note either, may be because I am used to RTR note.

Went to Suzuki showroom . I saw it for first time in flesh and I was immediately in awe of the looks. Initially They straightway refused test ride of Gixxe or r SF I spoke to the showroom in charge for 2 minutes and finally he agreed. But he did not give me SF. He gave me Gixxer. It was a short 2 KM ride but it made me happy. Realised vibes of my Apache after riding that bike. It was accelerating well. Exhaust note is sweet too. One thing was very clear, Apache has far better bite in front brake (my RTR has rear disc, so won't compare it to SF)

I have done test ride on new ZMR. I am fine with the looks but I have read too many problems about this version and the test ride bike was vibrating a lot more than Apache.

I thought of R15 too but pillion seat is as good as non existent. 95% of my riding is solo but still remaining 5% matters. Aggressive posture of R15 was never an issue because I have been an avid road biker (bicycles) where the hands are positioned about 2-3 inches below saddle level. So R15, with handle grips at level of saddle would not have been an issue. Did not get test ride.

    I do not like Duke200.

I have not given any thought to Honda.

So I am almost sold out on Gixxer SF . Can you please let me know if the fairing of SF vibrates a lot or no? I rode Gixxer and it was silent.

Above points reflect my opinions too.. I am just confused which way to go. I own a suzuki GS150R and wanted to upgrade to a powerful bike (this means no gixxer).. After having gotten used to the silence and excellent ride quality of a suzuki, bajaj is out of the equation (they are trying hard but yet to reach there). Honda cbr250r - i hear that the production is stopped - so no and delay for spares - support for issues. Duke 200 - its taller seat (am 5' 5'') and added maintenance and expense.. No to REs too (not my taste ) .. R15 really good bike but hope it had good pillion seats..

I am just looking for a powerful commuter (>=200cc) & occasional tourer and IMHO there is a huge vacuum in 1-3L price range for such bikes in india.. Sorry guys if you think that indian motorists have lot of options in this segment today. I feel that's not the case.. every bike in this price range is marketed (but most are not) as a racing bike ... Aren't there enough motorists who have needs similar to mine or these companies do not understand the market well?

Inazuma was a close fit to my requirements (no ABS but its okay) but its my bad luck the bike wasnt priced/marketed well.. If suzuki promises me availability of spares and service support I will just buy it for the price sold - really frustrated with the options I have !

Looks like I have to adjust to negatives that each motorcycle available in this price range comes with OR for pay more for the CKD products...

Why I am looking for powerful commuter in INDIA?? - 150cc bikes I feel aren't designed to be ripped at 100kmph even occasionally. I am sure they will create issues sooner or later.. Why stress the engine and reduce its life while 200-250cc motorcycles can do that with ease? Every company here in India wants to be a mass market guy else kill the product or price it really high! This seems to be the strategy..

If someone can tell me sureshot way to avoid/slow down rusting in Apache, I would surely go for RTR 180 ABS. I used Caliber 110 for 12 years and needed to change spokes once and front shock absorbers twice due to rust (I stay just 1.5km from sea shore, so that much rusting i think i ok over 12 years). My RTR 160 rusted badly in 6 months. TVS responded well and changed all rusted parts , which include......... the frame itself , front + rear brake discs, front shock absorbers and few smaller parts. I am happy with bike performance and TVS response but still that does not make up for rusting at such a high rate.

I did try karizma ZMR and CBR150. Karizma is out due to pillion seat which is as good (as bad) as R15 now. I would rather buy R15 if at all I have to. CBR150 low end torque is teh issue as expected.

Yes. there is a huge space for powerful commuters in 180-220 cc segment. What are the choices ?

TVS : I love Apache in every way but worried about rust.

Bajaj: Pulsar AS/NS200 (did not like it in ride quality dept). If NS 200 is the best Pulsar till now, Pulsar 180 and 220 are out of question.

    KTM: Duke 200 (Pillion seat)

Hero: Karizma (pillion seat and looks. Fairing vibrates too but I think it can be rectified to acceptable levels)

Yamaha : Nothing in this segment. I like R15 but test ride not available and pillion seat as good as absent

Suzuki: Nothing in this segment . In addition, read about rusting issues in Gixxer recently..many users. Suzuki replaced rusted parts

Honda : CBR 250 ; Crosses 2 lakh OTR for ABS variant , waiting period 6-7 months, no idea about spares. Nothing in 200 CC
