    Icon7 Need guidance on choosing my first ever motorcycle ! 6'3'' || Under 2 Lakhs || 250CC +

    Hello xBhpians,
Need expert advice from gurus . .
I will try to keep this very crisp.

    Profile :
    -I am Balaji , 25 , from Coimbatore , TN
    -6''3' , 97 KGs ( No , I am not fat :p)
-Been riding for 8 years ( Mostly under 200 CC).
-Has a budget under 2.5 L On Road.
-60% Street rides , Short occasional weekend rides ( <250 kms) , Once in 2 months long rides ( Coimbatore - Chennai - Bangalore)
-Moslty likes to cruise @90-100 km/h , with occasional hard revving.

    Requirements:
    ->250 CC
    -Reliable
-Need a bike that suits my height
    -Pillion rider comfort
    -Does not mind Fuel efficiency

-My dad (51) and I will be sharing this bike . So it will be a plus if its Dad-ridable

My List as of Now :
    -RE Classic 500 DS
    -RE Bullet 500 Forest Green
    -RE Classic 350 Ash
-KTM Duke 390 2016 (ABS, Slipper Clutch)
    -Honda CBR 250 .

    • What other good bikes have i missed?
    • Will Duke 390 be comfortable for me ? Are the heating issues manageable ? :(
    • Although RE seems to be an obvious choice, The only thing that hold me back is the reliability . I heard the Oragadam plant bikes are well made with good fit and finish and has higher reliability/quality. Is that true ? Can any recent (Mid 2015 and later) RE owners confirm me ?

    • Does the RE Classic 350 Ash gets Dull after prolonged usage ? Any Ash owners using it for more than 6 months , please guide me .

Thanks in advance . Love this community.

If you can then wait for the Himalayan. Considering you like REs.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

But the big question is, Can his dad also ride the Himalayan or will it be a himalayan task to ride it.

With D390, you can forget your pillion my friend. Its solo-friendly IMO. If your dad also might use it, I certainly wouldnt recommend this bike for him. If it is just for you, go ahead.

If you want a bike for both, then RE it is. I would prefer the Classic model any day. I hope you are very much aware of the niggles and troubles you might land into. Its best to cruise in 80, RE doesnt like 100, it vibrates like hell.

You can rule out D390 , for the pillion comfort.
Test drive Mahindra Mojo and see if it fits your requirement.

Thanks Monk for the approval . I find himalayan sadly impractical for my Dad .

Thanks . Would D390 be ok or my height . I feel a short test ride does not simulate long travels and city traffic . Thats why expecting user experiences from tall riders

A TNT25 seems about right. It makes good power, has a good tank range and most importantly is dad-rideable too. Though I'm led to believe it is expensive to maintain.

The Mojo is taller, heavier with an incredible tank range. It has quirky looks that might not appeal to everyone and the pillion seat is less comfortable than the TNT25.

The CBR250r, its an aging model and also a faired, but is the only one that comes with ABS. The earlier two might get ABS this year.

All 3 can cruise on 100 all day ... so you chose. I don't think I'm qualified to comment on RE.

I am one step away from booking an RE . I do not want to bore you guys with "Classic or Bullet" , "500vs350" .
If only some new RE owners can confirm the reliability and the quality increase after mid 2015 models , I can heartfully book an RE , mostly DS500 .
    Please guide an amateur

TNT 25 is awesome , But The lack of showroom and service centre near my hometown Coimbatore worries me .

Though me being a RE owner can only comment on the GT which is very reliable though it's just not Dad Friendly as such.

The Thunderbird is another good one I see more complaints at the service center with Classic owners than Thunderbird or Bullet owners (yes you heard it right, bullet owners I've hardly seen complaining much).

I think TNT25, Mojo or the CBR would be a right fit, If i were in your place, I'd rather wait up a little to see what new models are coming out by march. And would rather split the money in buying two bikes one being the Honda Navi which is commute friendly & light on the wallet too in every aspect, buying, running, maintaining. And probably splurge a little on a proper bike.
