Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
Because everyone who passes, isn't a martyr!

Brother, Its not about how quick or powerful the bike, you can get seriously injured even by riding a cycle. Its about protecting the important and vital body parts and the parts that suffer most from the accident ie. Head, in case of fall head is the first thing that hits the ground or divider or another vehicle (Hence Helmet is first on list). Then comes the hands and nails which suffer the most punishment in case of a fall (Hence the gloves) and so on. Therefore Divya sir suggested the gear in that order. It does not mean that you don't need shoes on a less powerful bike, it means that normal leather shoes are capable of protecting your foot till you have enough money to get proper riding shoes.
Any tough shoes will do the job, if they cover till the ankles - all the better.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
