    Icon5 RC 200/RS200/Gixxer SF

Its finally time that i will be buying a new bike, by what i mean my parents are buying me a new bike. Im a bike enthusiast and i like all kinds of bikes. I want the best VFM bike. If I want i can get the RC 200 but will have to wait for some time. As of now I can go and buy the SF , after driving that i dont think so because im power hungry. I have driven the 390's , but upgrading from a Activa and getting a 390 would not be a good idea. And i dont want to waste my parents money on a costly bike and then spend even more on maintaining it. Usage would be 70% highway 30% City, buying specifically for Joyrides. Fuel Efficiency dosnt matter much. I weigh around 90 kgs and about 5:11 tall. I love faired bikes , but thats not the main criteria . Budget 1.8L dosnt mean I spend all of it. Few things i wanted to know is gixxer sf good at high speeds, ~100kmph. IS RS servicing ,maintaining, build quality enough for Pune roads and excite me as much as Rc. Loved the RC but will have to wait about 2 months for it , and i will have explain every damn relative , neighbour , friend that KtM is good and safe bike if you ride safely and cautiously. Also i may not be able to drive the bike for about 3 months at stretch because i will be joining the merchant navy. Any other bikes which are good please do recomend. Never knew buying a bike would be this difficult. Also do post if keeping the bike off at a stretch of 3 months would harmm the bike. Also IM fascinated about cornering , and live very close to lavasa and after buying the bike i may buy a house in Lavasa. Just love the roads in Lavasa .CHEERs

    Query Approved

I think the RS 200 would be a good trade-off.

And no 3 months won't be a problem.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Respect ! , I come across very few sensible posts , this is definitely one of them.

Usage would be 70% highway 30% City, buying specifically for Joyrides. Fuel Efficiency doesnt matter much. I weigh around 90 kgs and about 5:11 tall. I love faired bikes , but thats not the main criteria . Budget 1.8L dosnt mean I spend all of it
RC200 packs up the party well and good, Cornering is a delight and so is the punchy engine. It feels at home in lavasa roads, I have driven it and can vouch for this.
RS200 meanwhile is similar , well all round package but with slightly detuned engine and more weight. But still a good bike to be driven on hills.
Gixxer / SF , Didnt drive so cant comment. But as i have heard they have handling prowess but doing 100 all day in 160cc bike is asking for lot from that engine , not that it cant do but driving at 90% its top end isnt recommended for long durations.

PS : I have a Xtreme which is sparsely used because its at my native, sometimes i cant ride it for more than 2-3 months, Just make sure whenever you start put some oil (3-4ml) through SP window and rotate wheel . That will coat cyn block a little avoiding scoring due to dry crank.

Or if you have any family member near bike, ask them to give it a little idle time alternate day , or ask brother or friend to ride it. I am from Pune too so gimme a shoutout if needed.

RC200 hands down if you are buying for joyrides. Most fun you can have on a 200cc motorcycle, that being said, Gixxer SF can cruise at 100kph comfortably, RS200 has a good balance of power and comfort, but if you love cornering go for the RC.

Out of the 1.8L budget, I would keep 20k (minimum) aside for riding gear.

    Break-up:
    Helmet - 5-6k
    Gloves - 3k
    Jacket - 6-7k
    Pants - 5-6k
Boots - 0. Normal woodlands for now, proper riding boots later. If you want one now, spare an additional 5-8k for the same.

Now, the effective budget is roughly 1.6L.

Then I would want to buy a bike and include comprehensive insurance (zero depreciation would be my choice, but a comprehensive insurance is a must) within the budget I have. Road taxes are exorbitant in places like KA and KL. Not very sure about MH. You may/may not have to pay OCTROI.

I guess these things would cost close to 25k.

What is the effective budget now? 1.35L.
Do you want to use all of that on a bike or save further for fuel + maintenance is up to you.

By joy rides, I assume you'll ride responsibly and not rash during the night like most youngsters do these days.
A Gixxer (SF) can do 100 but it won't be very stress free at that point if kept for long. Keep in mind that the max cruise speed must be kept at 75-80% of max performance/speed if reliability matters to one.

100 kmph is dangerous on Indian roads and that too in Lavasa serpentine roads? Even more dangerous!

    I second Divya Sharan here.
Choose the bike dpending upon the practicality rather than just going with the flow of generation.

I would suggest R15 or RS200 and rest amount can be used for buying riding gears.

+ 1 for R15, a proper upgrade over Activa, Can do triple digit speeds all day long without any problem, no maintenance cost apart from regular servicing (Unless you crash), Yamaha's gem of an engine (robust, reliable and smooth), handles like a dream. All in all a proper entry level sports bike, with commuter like reliability.

If you still want to go for 200 CC bike... KTM is the best among the bikes you shortlisted. Its a hoot to ride around and a proper pocket rocket.

RS 200 will be much heavier than KTM, the engine is rough, the fairing will start rattling in the first week, but bang for the buck.

Gixxer SF will do 80 comfortably, anything more than that and the engine will feel really strained and rough.
I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.

Thanks everyone for your suggestion, got some confusions clear . Got a separate budget for riding gear and all that's left to buy is a riding jacket, riding pants not so keen on getting them because find them uncomfortable. Will finalise within a few days. Thanks again

    Hi

OT but wanted to ask, are you suggesting that ordinary boots could do for now since the OP is considering Gixxer and RS 200 among others which are not the quickest bikes around? This is a dilemma since riding gear is expensive and boots even more so. Can one settle for woodlands/any other hiking boot if one is a sane rider on a not so quick bike?
