Default Vespa sales and service good in Chennai? Worth the buy in 2017?

    Hi Guys,

Is it good to buy Vespa in Chennai in 2017 with AHO and BS4 engine? How are the sales and service support in Chennai? I'm looking at the basic Vespa lx 125 and not sxl or vxl variants. Already we feel the base model is a lot of scooter money and it has only drum brakes

I want Vespa for city commutes with pillion, metal body, graceful aging and good resale value.

Other scooters in consideration are Activa 125, Access 125 (normal and special editions - almost full fibre and only 2 small metal parts; powerful engine and handling though) and Hero Duet (110 CC engine with metal body)

So, is it worth spending the extra amount for my requirements?

My dad likes Vespa brand since his childhood but he feels its just too costly for my daily usage or basic requirements we have. Running on the maximum will be ~40 km in the city and even that, not daily. But the fun part is whole family likes Vespa! My dad wants one as well so he can take it to meet his old buddies after renewing his license.

    Thanks in advance.

Mate, JMB Ashok Nagar does a good job on service. Your dad is right, Vespa is little costly compared with other bikes and for the usage you've mentioned. But hey, I think it's just a matter of a couple of thousand bucks, if I'm not wrong. IMHO, the price difference is worth considering only when the difference is around/above 20k. So personally I suggest that you go ahead and get the bike. At the end of the day your whole family will cherish the bike and you'll be putting a smile on your dad's face and that's priceless!

PS: If I were you and not going to choose Vespa, I would add Aprilia SR150 to the list.

    Cheers!

hi thanks. Ashok nagar showroom is the closest to me. The 20 k difference is justified if I take hero duet into consideration. To be honest, if i were to buy anything without taking vespa into consideration, I might as well get the duet. No aprilia - over priced, not useful for my requirements and also plastics all over. Plastics are also why I didnt consider maestro. I'd even pick duet over access because of the same reason although access is bigger in size for a tall guy like me.

I'll ride everything ans decide although price and usage are my concern with respect to vespa. Otherwise its vespa, no doubt.

I'd also be happy to support Indian manufacturers.

The problem with jupiter is that my legs feel they're bent way too much. I'm tall and as the seat sinks in it becomes clumsy, I have to move around to find my spot. Also the pillion comfort is better on duet. Please try it out - be it with pillion foot rest or suspension. Both are better on duet. I feel jupiter is getting better attention because it's more affordable - the base model and also it follows a successful wego brand.

Hero is using new engine in duet and maestro edge and im not sure how much reliable that engine is...also if you are taller than 5'10" consider honda aviator as well..a great scooter for tall riders.

    Please read this - http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...o-duet-13.html

My exact doubt is that reliability. Also in comparison to maestro or other scooters, it doesn't give you the premium feeling. I am avoiding Honda scooters due to stiff rear suspension. Only activa 125 seems to be toned down from my long rides on each scooter. I like how aviator looks too. Very premium and the design is not imitated yet - lol I'm being mean but look at jupiter, duet, old maestro and all. Aviator is pretty good for taller riders like me. I like the seating but pillion would be prone to stiff suspension when on potholes and the ride undoubtedly is jumpy.

If the reliability was really an issue, hero wouldn't give 5 yr or 50 k km (whichever comes first) warranty - their contention being, we believe in the reliability of our technology. So this makes think twice. Duet owners also say it's like any other current hero product. They say engine becomes smooth as we ride the scooter and service it regularly. I believe, this is where owners should help develop a brand and make it premium. But for new buyers like me, trust issues still exist. In the end we all get influenced by others and their approval, case in point being my looking for a premium product and at the same time with good resale value and durability. Owners also report amazing mileage figures even though the scooter is heavy - 50 - 55 kmpl.

But now, I am heading to Honda showroom and do the test ride of the new 2017 Aviator. Long pending. Arrogant dealers in the closest showroom. More and more vehicles headed this way and as a customer, I will have long waiting periods for both purchase and sale.
