Default Which bike to buy, dominar / p220?

I am completely hooked up between dominar 400 and pulsar 220f. I know, for some, the comparison might be insane / out of league, but frankly it is the dilemma I am facing (not to forget) on the basis of my requirements. While urge to have more power is pushing me towards dominar at the same time the simplicity of 220f attracts me to herself.

Dominar is really a capable machine but what set me back is its technologically loadedness. I love both the bikes but EFI on dominar is deal breaker for me, agreed that its way better than good old carburettor of 220f but its way more complicated and expensive as well. Heard that we have to replace it after few thousand Kms (say anywhere between 12k to 18k) and it cost around Rs. 15k depending upon makes. The lack of competence of local mechanics with

the EFI is major worry. I would take the Pulsar 220f to any local mechanic for its service but I am sceptical about it when it comes to dominar. Heard that it is not that easy to service owing to the way it is designed. Further I have enough for me at commuter space as my Yamaha Saluto serves me well there, and therefore now I am looking for tourer. And with all the respect I may state that both the bike mentioned here fits well there (at least for me, I have done few long distance rides on my brothers p220). Listening to the horrendous stories of EFI breakdown of thunderbird owners force me to keep my hands away from dominar (or any machine with EFI for that matter). Imagining the EFI breakdown on deserted-lonely highway or abandoned countryside with my wife at odd hours, gives me feeling of nightmare (though I have not personally experienced it).
My uses would mostly or rather strictly be sticked to fortnight long drives (say around 50-100kms) and once in a month or two to touring, since it is salute which will be on duty for weekdays. Considering the fact that I will be using it for 300-500 kms/day (while touring) I think I wont be going wrong with any of them. Pillion comfort is also very much of concern for me as almost all the time I would be travelling with my wife. What should I do? should I wait for sometime so that bajaj may go back to carburettor on dominar as it did with pulsar 220F back then? BAL is known for many things and surprising the intended audience is surely one of them. I have also heard that the DOMINAR in its present avatara is not fetching volumes intended/targeted by BAL, this may force them to take a step back in terms of technology in order to make this vehicle further (I have used further; and not more, as it is already has a killer price tag) cost effective
So finally what should I do, should I wait for anything positive in future or should I go for Pulsar 220F itself?
I am exploring one more possibility i.e. change of EFI to carburettor by your own (of course after the natural life of stock EFI is over) as many RE owners do. My question is whether it would be feasible on Dominar and/or whether somebody out here had tried anything crazy like this?

NOTE: Looks are irrelevant for me. I can wait for next 8-10 months but not beyond that.
I know this is too much to ask for, hope I have not annoyed anyone here!

    Query Approved

From your query it appears that the only thing you are worried about is fuel injection. Don't! Carbs belong in history books. Buy the Dominar.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Dominar is the option for touring, efi systems don't fail as much you've read about it whatever. But still if your not comfortable with fi, why not consider the Himalayan?

The Himalayan BS4 is available only with FI.

Dominar will be a better choice than p220 in 2018

Looks like you have made a good case for P220......end of the day you should be satisfied and happy with your vehicle , buying an FI and then dying of anxiety of when it'll break down ( even if it never does ) doesn't seem worth it .

Both are good bikes and as you said both are different leagues hence both are good in their own leagues and also BOTH HAVE THEIR OWN PROBLEMS.
Buy which ever makes you satisfied and your ready to put up with .

Why not consider the pulsar ns 200? It's carboreuted and so is the Apache rtr200, go n test ride both those bikes and see which suits you. I honestly like the ns 200 more than the 220.

Your worry about EFI breaking down in the middle of nowhere is baseless. You've read the EFI breaking down on REs.
To be honest REs are not a benchmark when it comes to technology and reliability. Even the most modern and capable REs are light years behind other bikes when it comes to niggle free ownership, refinement and technological bells and whistles.

Each and every car on road today uses a multipoint fuel injection system. How many people have you heard complain about them failing? You yourself might have travelled long journeys on cars over the years, how often did the FI fail and how often were you worried about them failing??

EFI works and it works very well (unless of course its an RE), the Dominar is the more capable of the two shortlisted bikes and when compared, it is better in every possible calculable way on paper and on road. Don't miss out on a very capable tourer, because of wrong prejudices.
    Ride safe.

I would like to thank my legs for supporting me, my arms for being always by my side and my fingers; I could always count on them.
