Cool Replacement for Pulsar 150 UG4.5 for daily commuting in heavy traffic

    Hello dear xBhpians

This is my first post in xBhp so please pardon my writing skills.

I want to purchase a new bike for daily commuting in very heavy city (Noida/NCR) traffic. I have ridden Bajaj discover 112cc (ks) from 2006 to 2014 (approx.. 80k kms). Currently riding pulsar 150 UG4.5 from 2014 (50k kms on odo). Now riding comfort & handling of my P150 has been deteriorated a lot, so I am planning to change my bike.

Need help from experienced riders in the research to find right bike for me.

    My age- 35 years
    Height- 5`11``
    Weight- 75 kgs
    Budget approx.… 1.2lac
Riding style- Sane riding at 40 to 60 km/h max
Riding condition – From home to office, 100 % in bumper to bumper city (Noida/Ghaziabad) traffic.
Daily commute- approx. 40- 50 km/day (80% solo riding and 20 % with pillion) no highway riding.
Road conditions- full of potholes & debris. (Lots of construction work is going on at my route)
    Requirements for the bike are:

    1. 150 to 200 cc bike
    2. Bike must have good bottom end torque.
    3. Upright siting posture.
    4. Bike should be really comfortable to ride, comfort which I cannot compromise on
    5. Bike should be perfect for bumper to bumper traffic.
    6. Bike should be reliable for long term use
    7. Fuel efficiency not an issue
    8. Good braking & good suspension.
    9. High top speed not a condition at all, as I enjoy steady & slow riding.

    Thanks

CB Unicorn 150 is the bike you're looking for. It checks all the boxes. My brother bought it 2 years ago and dropped riding it last year. I've been using it occasionally since then. The mono-suspension makes riding comfort much better than Pulsar 150 (brother had UG4 from 2011 to 2016). It's great for solo riding, has an upright position when compared to sporty 150 to 160cc commuters and performs really well in bumper to bumper traffic. The suspension is really great and is the only thing the bike doesn't compromise on. Braking is really smooth and effective. The bike will surely get ABS in 2019. What makes it really stable and comforting? The straight riding stance, the heavy and well balanced diamond frame with mono-suspension and the testimonials of commuters who've used this reliable mean machine for years (check the Unicorn Ownership thread). The Stock MRF Zappers provide good grip as well. I suggest that you give a serious consideration to this particular bike and test ride it. While it may not be high on looks and features due to it's conservative stance, it makes up really well on city commuting with the unmatched comfort that it provides.

thank you dear for your suggestion

yesterday i contacted three nearby Honda dealers they said this bike is not available in NCR for sale. Its available only in south Indian markets. After this a called customer care of HMSI but the guy didn't aware about the issue ha said the bike is available all over India dealerships.

By the way i did a little online research on Unicorn150 reviews were mostly positive & quite similar to what you described in your post. i have seen one old unicorn 150 in a parking lot & talked to the owner about the bike but the owner didn't know much about the biking he gave me a plane answer "badhiya hai"( its good).

What a dumbass. Unicorn is available throughout the country. Also, I live in North Eastern part of the country and guess what, it's sold here in abundance.

I hope that you can find a good dealership and test ride the bike. I'm sure you'll like the comfort. I was a Pulsar 150 user (my brother's old bike from which I learnt to ride) before we swapped it in exchange for the Honda Unicorn.

Today i contacted few more dealers but neither of them have the bike in stock, Only one (the biggest one) told me that they can arrange the bike for me after booking. But the sales person told me that this unicorn150 is not popular in this region.
i think they are happy with activa & shine only & do not want to bother about the Uni150.

Btw any other bike suggestion for me,

    Thanks

A very rare thought from my side - Hero Xtreme 200 which is a decent commuter, smooth engine and has ABS too(front wheel only).
It should be easy to maintain and delivers on your requirements very easily.
Else you can always go for Yamaha SZ-RR or even the new gen Pulsar 150 which has slightly different characteristics owing to BS4 regulations. Torque has increased so easier to ride in city as well.

Try the new Honda X-Blade. Looks different. A 160cc mill that has enough power. And Honda's reliability.

I'd say get Honda Unicorn its a clear no nonsense bike with tons of comfort & reliability. Upright posture, ideal for commutes, is rare in bigger bikes, so only other option is Hero Xtreme or Xtreme 200R. The former has same engine as Unicorn and the latter is based on the same with slightly increased displacement. I'd say get a test ride of 200R maybe its what exactly need. it has added bonus of ABS too. Other bikes have more or less a sporty posture.

actually i am not interested in Bajaj, this time i want to change the brand,
can some body tell me about the breaking of SZ RR because it has single piston front disc break, is it equal to P150?
