Day 43 & 44 – Melbourne to Jindabyne

Melbourne was the last big city on our tour before we reached back Sydney and finished the ride. And in the last few days, we had seen pretty much everything that this country has to  offer, almost everything. So, the excitement of reaching home and completing the ride was overpowering everything else that we had in our minds. But the company of a new rider, Candida on her Royal Enfield, on this leg gave this ride a new dimension.

Melbourne to Sydney is less than a 1000 kms if you take the highways; but than there is hardly anything as boring as highways when you are riding a motorcycle, and especially when you have the option of taking the country roads or mountain roads. So we chucked the highways and took the longer route via the Snowy Mountains, which was a much more scenic route going through the lush green mountains and taking us to Mount Kosciuszko, which also happens to be the tallest mountain in the mainland Australia. The Snowy Mountains region, true to its name, is covered by snow in winters and is a famous tourist spot in Australia who come here for skiing and other recreational activities.

Melbourne to the motorable top of Mount Kosciuszko, Charlotte Pass, is about 500 kms journey, so we broke it in 3 days;  day 1 Melbourne to Freeburgh and day 2 Freeburgh to Jindabyne and than on day 3 Jindabyne to Canberra via Charlotte Pass.

And these 3 days offered us some of the best experiences that we had had on this trip so far, partly also because we were in celebratory mood as we were nearing the completion of this roadtrip.
