Question Chain problem in Unicorn

Hi all,
My Unicorn has done 20K Kms and around 1 month before (after a long ride) i started hearing weird noise from the chain guard when bike is doing a turn. On inspection I found that chain ply was very loose and got tightened by mechanic. But again after 1 week (arnd 100Kms) the same problem revisited. Last week I gave for servicing and still im facing the same problem.

One of my friend told that I can remove some Links from the chain to make it tight. Is it fine or do I have to buy a new chain?

I had the same issue on my Fiero. The chain was about 25k Kms old. It used to scrape against the chain guard after running for about 10 kms. The chain as told to me, gets hot and expands and touches the guard. It had reached its max and could not be tightened further. I went in for a new set of sprockets and chain.

Your chain could be worn out prematurely because of infrequent/inadequate maintenance in the form of cleaning/oiling.

You could try the following to see if it helps:

1. Remove the chain from the bike
2. Wash the chain in Kerosene/Diesel and dry
3. Soak it in 90 grade oil
4. Reinstall the chain

This *may* help to a certain extent. Have the sprockets checked for wear - if they are worn the chain will be worn as well. Both need to be replaced together.

Oil the chain frequently, using 90 grade oil. While this is dependent on type of riding conditions and usage, I'd say every 1000km is a good time - it takes a few minutes and is easy to perform.

Average life of Chain/Sprocket for Unicorn is between 20-25k kms. Changing is better.

Yup change the set as a complete, and follow the lubrication process as advised by nirvan above.
