Default Cleaning up of threads in Help Me section

Hello everyone,

As you may have noticed, ken cool and myself are on a locking spree of old / defunct threads in this section. While this is happening, the Live xtracker may get jammed with our messages. Please bear with us for this inconvenience.

Thanks in advance.

-Rossiter.

There wasn't too much in those threads to save anyway

Just a bump up so that people can read them. Pages 1-25 of 66 cleaning done. Will continue over the next one day.

I just cleaned up pages 60-66. Ouf! My fingers are aching. Will continue in the days to come. In the meanwhile if you guys are willing to still check out interesting stuff in those old pages of the Help section, do so before they are Closed.

Thank you for your comprehension.

Don't know if the clean up was necessary or not that's up to the mod group.

But IMO you guys could have just locked xbhp for about 2-3 hours and with all hands on deck get this sorted out faster/sooner.

Anyways, Godspeed to you

I was surprised to see the number of locked threads. Now I know the reason for it.

Lightbulb My 2 cents..

Pardon me. I dont know if you people are closing the threads or deleting them. But if suggestions are welcome, then mine would be delete the old threads related with purchase of bikes. This may save lots of space on the server. Every person planning for a new bike will start a new thread. There would be hardly a few who would actually read the old threads for planning the purchase. Instead of deleting the ones which are a bit technical in nature, the data in it can be compiled and a new separate thread for the technical section can be created.
Well, this is only my suggestion. Things are upto u people.

The locking of threads is a stupid idea. If that is the case; for example, what if a member who logs in after a week or so wants to contribute his part to the thread what would he do

OR

What if the member is having a better advice when compared to others ?

Does he/she needs to message the mod team to re-open the thread so that he can contribute ? Sounds dumb...!

When other forums are making life easier for members why xBHP is going the other way around ?

what happened to freedom of speech ken ? . i also feel threads should not be locked , only 'what bike' ones should be locked if creator has decided on a bike but 'help me' threads should remain open . just my opinion

Suggestions are most definitely welcome. Your suggestion is quite good, but as I said above, Ken and myself have locked almost 200 threads between us, and we only scratched the surface. So if we have to compile the info in all these threads, it will take a long time. But it may just be worth it. Let me discuss it with the other mods. And we are not deleting the threads for now. Only locking them.

We are only locking the threads which are more than 3-4 months old, and which have less than 3 replies.

Again, we are only closing the threads which the original poster hasn't even bothered to come back and check again, and in some cases, not even logged back in after creating the thread. The same stagnating period applies here as well.

And by the way, your language isn't very pleasant. Please choose your words carefully.

Please tell me how we have made your life difficult. I'd love to know.

Yes Puneet, the threads in the What Bike category needs to be locked like you said. Will be going through that category once we finish up with this.

I don't understand how we are restricting freedom of speech? Are we telling you to not say something, or editing your posts?

Sure.. another good idea. I think next time around, we'll do this. Probably to clean up the What Bike category. Again, another point to be discussed with the other mods.
