30-35 kmpl is normal for fazer .

As said you cannot expect better mileage figure from an Yamaha - they are not meant for that....
The normal Mileage figures of FZ or Fazer is somewhere around 30 - 35 -extreme conditions 40....
And as for your Friends P220 - giving 45kmpl.......
    That is Pulsars Story....

see dude...31 is kinda on the low side but i guess 35-40 kmpl is the mileage u can target to achieve....try using better fuel...it helps...drive sensibly....dont accelerate suddenly....driving rash with jerk acceleration reduces mileage...get ur feed checked....if its too rich then may be u can lose a bit of acceleration for much needed FE

You can check the choke cable, and ensure that its not pulled. Also get the spark plug checked for excessive carbon deposit. If any, then it would indicate that the fuel mixture is rich, i.e. the bike is burning excessive fuel.

Also keep the tyre pressure regulated. Tubeless tyres tend to lose air more frequently than tubed tyres.

Guys lets not just write off the mileage, im sure there are a few basic checks that he can do before giving in to this kind of mileage.

Well, contrary to ur problem, I own a fz 16 for the past 3 months and I haven't got a mileage less than 42kmpl. The maximum I have got is 54kmpl, both in city and the 2nd service is completed. Since the fazer also has the same engine as the fz, the mileage should be similar. But the fazer is 13kg heavier than the fz. I think the average mileage should be in the 35-45kmpl range. I suggest you do this mode of driving:
Draw the bike to the maximum in each gear . Shift up at 4000rpm only, shift down at 2000rpm, don't exceed the speed over 53kmpl. Also don't use the clutch except for gear shift. These should give u the maximum mileage. I got mine with these.

Also consider modification like the k & m filter for Rs.1600. A performance and mileage increase of 10% is guarenteed

k and N increases the mileage!!!! no chance man...the thread on air filters says that be prepared to lose out on mileage for performance....

Dude I guess the petrol bunk guy duped you. Be very alert when you are filling fuel, always make sure that the bunk guy resets the bunk meter to zero and never talk another attendant while filling fuel, keep your eyes fixed on the bunk meter.
