  • [Help]:Is it possible to change the color of the LCD display of the new gen Pulsars ?

    Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering if it is possible to change the color of the orange colored LCD display of the new gen Pulsars to any other color, say white ? I have a Pulsar 220 DTS-i and I am sure it would look great with a HID assembly and a white LCD display (something like the R15's). If there is anyone with even the least knowledge in this context, Please do post a reply to this thread. And yes a DIY guide to it will be much appreciated
    Thanks

it can be done. But it will void the warranty on the meter. You need to open up the meter, check what is the voltage of the LED, and accordingly put leds of different color as you want. my friend has done it for a FZ meter, converting it to white, ill attach a pic for reference.

      Yes it does look awesome.

Yes it is very much possible. The display uses a surface mount LED if iam not wrong. But iam not sure if any one has done this before. Would love to do it provided i have proper guidance from out electronic gurus.

Can any one give a proper guideline to do this? How do we seal the meter to stop water leak after the mod?

Yes it can be done. The white colour on the FZ meter is looking good, but just see carefully & you will notice there is slight fade towards the fuel gauge side. It is brighter on the RPM meter side. I had checked with a Meter repair person in Shivajinagar & he said he can do it.

even i was thinking of the same for the past 1 yr now.but the pulsar digital speedo console is a sealed unit. The Speedo unit on the FZ is held together using philips head screws. Opening it up is no big deal. But same is not the case with the Pulsars. On pulsars the unit is completely sealed and so to open it there's a huge chance of breaking it.

Can we re-seal the pulsar meter? becoz if there is no seal, there is a risk with water damage

                            It can be done,but

Well, First of all, The Pulsar meters, are even easier to access, than FZ It can be opened up easily. I have opened about 6 times so far, just adjust the awry tacho needle.

Secondly as Rahul said, it's Surface-mounted LEDs. The problem is to solder and desolder surface mounted leds, especially for LCD. Even with a fine soldering tip, heat exposure to these leds for even 5 seconds can fry them.

Also, LED Back-ligiting for LCD can also be tough to change and Electroluminescence Panel (ELP) Backlighting, will need seperate units, Surface Mounted LEDs won't suffice. Where will we get these ELP modules?. Only way to check is to start working on broken speed console.

I haven't done any experimentation for long. It's a risk worth 3500 buck (the meter cost if i'm not wrong), but I will definitely do it. My exams are on, but I can undertake this project only in march.

BTW does anybody has a spare or even accident Pulsar speedo?

                              What took you so long?

I dont think Pulsar uses a ELP backlighting. I checked out soldering SMT Led's onto a PCB. They are freaking tough to solder fast. Burnt 7 till now.!!

I can source a speedo. However it will be a damaged non-working one.
