  • Filter and Spark Plug issue on my P180

    Hi Friends,

I have installed Iridium spark plugs and K&N filter on my P180 five months back. Everything went on smooth for first few months, but somewhere in January i felt that my bike wont go above 6k RPM instantly even if i kept on revving constantly but after some time as soon as it reached 8k RPm it would gain huge momentum.

I got it checked in Bajaj showroom and they told that there are scratches in Bore&piston as the filter box is cut out it draws in lots of dust, so they need to replace it. I had got it replaced 6 months ago. I took it to the mechanic(who had fixed bike before including engine work -bore piston replace, air filter change, spark plugs change, rear disc brakes) and he told me that its just the problem with inlet valves and he will fix it. Also as a precautionary measure i got the air filter box closed so that it doesnt draw in dust.

Now since last few days i am facing strange issues. I will list them one by one.

1.) When i slow down from higher speed sometimes there are misfiring noises of spark plug. Sometimes when i slow down to 1st gear the engine makes a click noise and OFF. Self wont work at nuetral and atleast 50 kicks are required to start.Sometimes in morning while running it will just die as it used to be if there is dust in carberuttor in scooters.I will keep on accelerating and it keeps on slowing and stops.
My question is that is it due to some air filter setting or spark plug setting? Does Pulsar run on thick or lean mixture. I have no idea, Please help.

    2) When i brake the rear brake make noises like the buses do when they brake(as if they need to be greased). What is causing those sounds in bike rear disc brakes?

Moreover if anyone from bangalore could advice me a good mechanic who could tune my bikes engine properly that would be of great help.

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Seems like Your Bike is running on Lean Mixture....
What is your Idle RPM?it should be 1.5
Is your K&N Air Filter is placed inside the Airfilter Box or connected with the Carb outside ? If it is connected with the carb - More dust will cause problems
Have you Upjetted after installing the K&N?
There should not be any problems with the Iridiums - infact they should provide you an Quick Start...

There should be some Dust particles sticked with the Pad
Or the Disc pad should be running its last days
Else an Air Block in the Disc Brake Fluid Container which would have stopped Fluid Flow

First clean the Disc brake Callipers Pressurised air - this will clear the dust particles
Open up and see for the Disc pad status

      Hope this Helps....

My idle RPM is 1.5 but it is not constant. Whenever i stop at any signal it keeps on fluctuating from 1 to 2.

K&N filter is inside airfilterbox. Can you explain me how upjetting is done, because i have no idea.Even after the last servicing mileage has dropped from 42 to 32. Any suggestions on that.

Well will check disc pads on weekend for dust particles and fluid flow. Can you tell me how often disc pads needs to be replaced.

          Take these words of

          Coplay@180 :

I have also read that, these expensive spark plugs like the NGK iridiums are very effective in burning a more lean AF mixture. However i haven't tried it yet. I'm already pissed with the performance of my P180UG3 after the K&N and upjetting the main jet to a ZMA's 125mm jet. My engine overheats, engine suddenly goes off, engine & gearbox have become very rough ( though the CASTROL POWER 1 RACING oil is just mybe 600km old). My friend suggested the NGK platinums.. Wondering if I should try it out or REMOVE the K&N and revert back to stock..
Like someone said on some other thread, "USE THE FILTER IF U WANT THE SOUND, OTHERWISE STICK TO STOCK SETUP"

Hope this will give you some advice
@Coplay : I Hijacked your Words for a fellow Member - i think you wont get pissed off

There are more than hundreds of Bikers in and out of this Forum has Tested K&N and at the End only few were Happy with it....

The main Reason is that K&N Allows maximum Air In Take which needs the Carb Jet to be Higher in Size than the Stock One - The Carb will also be set to be Run in High Mixture of Fuel...(Thus makes the engine

This leeds the engine to loss in Breath as there is more air been Intaken....Thus makes the Engine feels Rough,,,,and Tough....And these effects leads to All the other Side Effects - which at the end the Smoothness of the engine is lost...

My Humble advice is to Go back to Stock - If you wanna a Hassle free ride and if you want to keep your Ride to be Smoother....

K&N's are mostly made for Drag Racers...There are only Few Riders who love them to keep in there Bikes never minding how smoother thier ride is..

You can keep the Iridiums But reconsider on the K&N Part...

If you still wanna test with K&N Go for Upjetting.... Replace the current P180 Jets with ZMA's Jets....and Tune your Carb for High Mixture....

Thanks for the advice friend. You have any idea how much will the upjetting cost. Will this jetting thing even reduce more mileage?

Also if i go for stock filter, can i sell the K&N filter?

So, removing K&N and keeping Iridium wont cause issues, right.

Not sure on how much it would cost for Upjetting...
Yes you can sell back K&N filter for those who are in need....If you have not damaged it...
Iridiums will provide you better ignition and better power for your Engine to start easily in cold morning and provide much better response then the stock ones....
I dont think there is any harm in having them installed....
