Default P220 DTS-i drop in accelaration

I has recently(some 3 weeks back) got K&N 1060 installed in my bike(P220 dts-i, done approx 7500kms then)...I also got the spitfire cable too..for the first few days the bike accelerated like crazy...but then there were some misfires...on checking I found the current from 1 spitfire cable leaking and got it fixed from the probiking mechanic and the bike seemed fine...but then some 10 days back there seemed to be a drop in rate of acceleration which has intensified lately(my friends old karizma accelerates faster than mine)

what may be the possible reason for it?

the bike has done 9600kms now and i am due for new spark plugs(will go for ngk iridium)

also what are stock plugs? and can they be the reason for this? ( i read in a thread in the forum that stock plugs need to be changed more frequently than spark plugs)

After fixing K & N filter did u retune the carburettor? Since the K & N filter increases ur air intake the ratio of Air and fuel in the carburettor is disturbed resulting in more air and comparatively less fuel thus causing a lean mixture. A lean mixture results in lower pick-up and misfires at high Rpms. So u could just go to ur mechanic n explain to him the above n he will retune ur carburettor.

Apart from this get ur spark plug checked. Unless its faulty (dat is wid improper heat range) der should be no problem..

Hope my advice proves to be of help.......

many thanks..i will try that...but i was told by a friend of mine that p220 dtsi has a big carburator so upjetting is not required...hence didnt go for it

Pulsar 220 has a large carburettor so dont do upjetting. Just change the setting so as to increase the amount of fuel going into the carburettor.

Your spark plugs may be the culprit here. I guess u are still running on stock plugs which last about 10k kms. Also retune the carburetor & get the spark plug cables checked once.

honestly telling, time to clean ur carbs.. there will be little deposits of tank rust or dirt material from fuel which would have ended up in the carb.. get a check on that.. increase little fuel flow in the carb. change the plugs too. belive me i own an FI .. my friends zma accelerates way faster than mine too. or it seems to be.. the engine is really free.. it takes time for the torque in my bike to kick in..where as he accelerates easily because his bike climbs up rpms way faster... ive been there and experienced it..my bike runs on a stock configuration..

revert back to stock setting from ur K&n as soon as possible.. not advice able to use it for too long. two of my friends' engines have had problems coz of it..

cheers RIde SAfE !

today i got my carb cleaned and slightly increased the amount of fuel intake too
was not able to change the spark plugs as ngk iridium plugs are out of stock and will have to wait for a week.....there was only a slight increase in acceleration....the probiking mechanic told me that pickup wont be that fast now as the bike has done 10k kms.....is it true?
