Default Query on Idle RPM and Gear Shaft

Hello guys,
My SVC tuned my Fz's carb to a rich mix/more power, but they set my idle RPM jst one bar above 1k,is tht enough?usually FZ have around 2 bars above 1k,does a richer mix require low idle RPM?

Another query is,my gear shifts are crappy, esp bet 1-N-2,its usually unresponsive when i downshift.2 months back i checked it with my SVC and they said the Gear Assembly is showing prob and they will replace it but they asked me to ride some more and check since i had jst done my service.

Today i went again and another guy checked it and said tht the GEAR SHAFT has to be replaced!

Can anyone here confirm tht its the GEAR SHAFT thts the problem?

Thank you

well it could be an issue with the gear shaft..

Firstly - Is there too much play on the pedal in normal position??? you will have to compare with another FZ and check. Also check the play of the pedal when it is slotted in gear. So basically check for play in 1st, N and 2nd gears.

Regarding the carb - There are two settings, one is air-fuel, other is idle. If airfuel mixture is rich at idle, yes it can cause a slower idle speed, if its too lean it can cause the bike to idle at a higher rpm, but then the mixture will not work at high rpm, since it will be too lean.

Getting your bike adjusted by a experienced mechanic is the best solution. the general setting for a CV carb is 1.5 to 2.5 turns unscrewed after tightening the air-fuel mixture directly in.

You can start with 2 turns out, and then set the idle to about 1200-1400 rpm ( in your case 2 bars above 1k rpm ). See how the bike runs, accelerates, maybe you can keep the setting for two days and check the mileage as an indication of mixture, check the spark plug etc.

I used to establish my carburettor setting by this trial and error method on my Thunderbird, till i came to an understanding with the idle screw and subsequently for a given opening of the idle, how many turns should the air-fuel mixture be at.

Lemme know if you need anymore help regarding service issues. you need to contact the yamaha corporate office at 0120- 2351209. ( since you are not based in delhi, otherwise i couldve helped with the service engineers number directly ). Ask for the person heading service and support, and then raise your issue with them. They should forward your issue to their service engineer for the region within a reasonable amount of time to get it resolved.

Dont be swayed by the dealers, They dont have the final say.. They like replacing components that are confirmed failures like meters, sensors, pumps etc, since there will be no argument over warranty from the company. Mechanical issues they will tend to avoid since it creates major issues with the company for them to claim it.

Tnx a lot JD.
by play you mean the amount of movement before engaging the next gear right?ill compare it and check.

ill jst explain my GEAR issue...when idle, when i shift frm N to 1,there is a thud sound, which has increased recently, and quite often when in low speed when i shift frm 2 it falls to N and then is unresponsive to 1...

so far i have no probs with the current idle RPM set up,will check for 2-3 days and will keep an eye on the spark plug, anything else that can suggest improper tuning and idle RPM?

again Thanks a lot JD!

^^ it does have a cv carb, and thats why i suggested a general range of setting.

@ranjith - try tightening your clutch cable using the adjustment screw on the clutch lever, but leave adequate play in the lever. Depress the lever fully and see if the sudden thud is still there when you shift gears.
