Hi. I recently upgraded my 2001 Pulsar 150 to the 2010 model (both black, of course:-) The new bike has just done about 600 kms. First service complete. The problem is - when idling the RPMs (needle and engine noise) are steady at 1300-1400. However, when I try to rev to 3k (bike in neutral) and maintain the RPMs at 3k... it fluctuates from 2500-3500.... Im using 3000 just as an example.. the same fluctuation is seen at any point I try to accelerate and keep the RPM needle at one point on the meter. This problem is seen when engine is cold and warm (after driving 30+kms also). Seen when bike is in neutral and when the bike is in gear (stationary and clutch depressed). Seen when handlebar is straight, left or right (i though it could be related to the cable tension or something since I had changed the handlebar).

Since the idling RPMs are steady, I think its a problem with the acceleration mechanism. I tried explaining the problem to the service guys but they insisted that since the idling RPMs are steady, the bike is fine and this fluctuation is normal!!

i think thats a normal issue. does the engine sound, vibration also change with the noticeable change in rpm???

Check the battery power. Had any issues with battery?

I don't think it's a problem. In 220 Dtsi, it's similar case, more prominent when engine is just started up. It's the new UCAL Carb. If i'm not wrong the new 2010 P150 also comes with Auto Choke?

Anyway it's perfectly normal.

yea same here all new pulsar's rpm's fluctuate at idle..my 220 does it too,asked a few friends and they too have this thing.. I will inquire whether its a defect or not tomorrow when i get my bike serviced

- Yes, the engine noise/ vibration also fluctuates noticeably... in fact, that is what clued me on to the problem...not the needle.

- I dont think its normal... I checked on another new bike a friend just bought. On his bike, a steady hand on the accelerator when bike is in neutral = steady rpm
