From my recent experience in late February:

Bangalore to Pune is a good road, except for a short stretch after Chitradurga where the dual carriageways merge into one, a railway crossing thrown in and some patchy road. But I was pleasantly surprised not to find it half as bad as I thought it would be. I think the total distance covered on patchy roads would be 100 km or less (out of approximately the 900 km distance), though the experience might make you feel it was longer since you spend more time covering that distance.

Pune to Mumbai is so so, because bikes cannot get on the expressway. Lot of traffic and crowded Ghat section. Bypassing Mumbai will be a pain just because of the sheer size. I was lucky because I had Ketan and Karan to help me and show me the way. Then after exiting Mumbai, roads till Vadodhara are good (little crowded though). Baroda to Ahmedabad is a pain relatively because of inability to use the expressway, and the road to be used is very crowded and single carriageway most of the time. There are sections which are four lane, but have no physical medians!

Ahmedabad to Udaipur is a pleasure to ride, after you get out of Ahmedabad after Naroda. Ditto for Udaipur- Ajmer. The key here is to take the NH76/79 to Ajmer via Chittaur instead of the NH8! And then from Ajmer, you know the way! NH8 all the way to Gurgaon!

                Hey piyush,

I do not remember the guy's id on xBhp nor his name, but if others can remember & if they may recall, there was a guy here who did a trip on his Std500 (cosmetic mods) from manipal to delhi. His was a custom painted blue coloured 500cc Bullet, with twin exhaust tubes. If somebody can recall who that was or can share the details of that thread, you can get some tips & information.

Sorry if that doesn't help with anything.
