Default Delhi to Chitkul on Bike in June end

Hi all,

I am planning to go Delhi to Chitkul on my bike (pulsar 150) alone.

Can anybody suggest me

i. Is this possible on Pulsar alone?
ii. what should I bring for my bike (in case of puncture or any other situation)?
iii. itenerary?
iv. road conditions (I have heard roads up to Karchaam are good)?
v. Any other precautions.

Waiting for reply soon

Query Approved.

Ofcourse, it can be done on a Pulsar. It should ideally take you 4-5 days in all if you take it easy, enjoy the views and ride sanely.

  • it is possible even on a 100 cc super mileage bike. Chitkul is not a super tough place to go.
  • Ideally no need to carry anything towards puncture repair. the route is properly inhabited and one can find the repair shops too easily. Still carry spare tubes, if you must.
  • Itinerary - depends entirely on you. Do Delhi to Narkanda Day 1, Narkanda to Sangla Day 2
  • Roads are mostly good, small patch at Karcham though is slightly bad and then from Karcham to Sangla valley is isolated and not a wonderful race track, but easily manageable.
  • Precaution!! know your limit, know the bike's limit and enjoy. Hills are not the place to do unwise acts.
go ahead, enjoy the ride, come back with pictures and ride safe.

all cheers

Since, you dont have any prior riding experience in hills, avoid riding after dark. This is the first thing you would have to keep in mind and hence plan your tour accordingly

Can anybody suggest me

i. Is this possible on Pulsar alone?

Yes it is possible on any bike, the rider matters more than the bike. If you know your bike well you can ride anywhere

ii. what should I bring for my bike (in case of puncture or any other situation)?

Clutch Wire (before leaving get to know to fix it, if clutch wire is quite old replace with new one just to be on the safer side)
Break Wire (same condition)
Spark Plugs
Engine Oil (change the engine Oil before leaving and carry extra in case you need it)
Chain lock (get your chain properly lubed and get the tensioner adjusted so that the chain doesnt get loose, as it does in hills at times)
Spare Tubes
Foot Pump and Puncture repair Kit
Bungee Chords ( keep extra rope as well for tying luggage)

iii. itenerary?

Day1: Delhi- Shimla (367kms)
Day2: Shimla - Chitkul (~200kms)
Day3: roam around Chitkul
Day4: Chitkul to Shimla or nearby Shimla
Day5: Shimla - Delhi

iv. road conditions (I have heard roads up to Karchaam are good)?

you will have to wait for response from riders who have been their

v. Any other precautions.

Wear all safety gear -Helmet, riding gears.
Dont push yourself while riding.
Riding in hills is a bit complicated than plains. So when riding in hills be alert.
Take proper clothings as the climate conditions may be colder.
