    Default R15 Fuel pump problem

I currently own a R15. Oddo reading :4500km. Age : "ALMOST" 1 year as it was bought on 19-6-2009 (not completed, which means the bike is still in warranty)
Daily commute done Minimum 10kms maximum 150kms, but the bike runs daily. Services done 1st and 2nd and 4th. And then I got a paid service done at 4200kms.

Till 4-6-2010 my bike was working in perfect condition, and was parked outside my office. After office hours i tried starting the bike, and it started just fine as regular and when i began accelerating the RPM raised and started dropping down and ultimately the bike stalled. Now the tried to star it again, it didn't start, tried pushing it, still didn't start. Now i switched the ignition off and turned it on the fuel pump didn't work. The sound of the fuel pump after switching the ignition on didn't come. Tried a bit here and there to turn it on, but all attempts failed. Ultimately i had to push the bike to my place and parked it there. And unfortunately i had an outstation meeting next day so had to rush to Solapur, so called up the dealer and asked him to collect my bike, he said he will inform me in a hours time and the call didn't come. So i called him again and told him that "its a matter of warranty as the warranty is getting over in 15 days" still i get the same reply. So i called him up again and i got a reply that the bike will be collected the next day. So i arranged for the keys and documents of my bike accordingly. The bike wasn't still collected. so I had to follow up with that guy again from OUTSTATION, and again ultimately that person didn't collect my bike, ultimately i had to call the manager up there and plead to him to do the needful and got the reply that he will collect it tomorrow. By that time i had arrived in Mumbai so the bike was collected in front of me and taken to the workshop.

Now that day my bike wasn't checked and i had to talk to those people again. He said he will check it the next day (05-06-2010)and will inform me, which ultimately he didn't. So i called the workshop and spoke to the in-charge there and got a reply was "the fuel pump has failed and as you have missed the periodic services the warranty has lapsed, as a result we can't provide the part in warranty."

Now guys i need help on this above mentioned issue as they stated that the warranty has lapsed because i missed the periodic service. My bike hasn't even completed 5k complete and the fuel pump has failed which costs 6.5k. I somehow fail to understand how and why this happened as the service in-charge over there didn't provide me a valid reason. The reason he stated that the bike has been stationery for long period which isn't true as the bike has done atleast 10kms daily.

Guys please help, its not a question of spending 6.5k, but i need to know the truth as i bought specifically Yamaha over other brands because of reliability and i got repaid like this.

do u have all the free service coupons stamped within the defined period?? irrespective of the number of kms covered, the duration has to be met. i think its 30days, 90 days, 180 days, 360 days for the warranty to be current and valid. And the warranty is for 2 years, 40k kms iirc.

If the coupons are not stamped as per the defined duration, then the company can refuse warranty.

Also were u habitual of running the bike on reserve or on low fuel constantly?

This is certainly cheating man.. I feel like beating up those guys for you.. first of all they didn't collect your bike and then they tell this to you.. oh.. man.. donno when these guys will improve. I never heard that warranty lapses due to missing periodic service.. better raise this issue with Yamaha customer care..

well the i don't remember if the coupons were stamped as the manual is with the SVC. Well as for the servicing, i had done 1st at 500kms and the second at 3000kms. i missed the 3rd and the 4th because of my exams and the bike didn't clock more than 4000kms on the oddo. And Now currently i got a full paid service done at 4500 kms as the bike was feeling a bit rough and as i had missed the previous services due to time constraint.

I was not habitual of the bike running low on fuel. Never was my bike empty and on reserve as the minimum fuel i had filled up was at least half tank.

Now the service engineer told me that they check all the sensors are check in periodic servicing. Is this true? Now i seriously think they are taking me for a ride. And specifically the fuel pump, which is supposed to last a lifetime of the bike, just conked off at 4500kms on the oddo. Something definately sounds fishy here.

I spoke to SVJhonda last night, he also said the same and that a few batch of R15 was suffering from fuel pump failure.

parts like fuel pump are designed to last for lifetime of the bike, so it is shocking to see fuel pump failure so early.

rude behavior of dealer, better contact higher officials[see yamha inida website] and if still they dont agree, threat them about approaching consumer court.

One thing you should probably find out is if any part of the Fuel Pump is serviced in a normal service and if any part of the Fuel Pump can be damaged due to lack of service?

sorry that i dont have much to offer!
