  • Where to mount the hid ballast in a karizma??

Hey guys i recently installed an HID in my karizma. But the mechanic had installed the ballast within the small airpockets the side of the karizma(its visible from outside). As a result the fairing on that side doesnt fit properly into its lowermost socket,so it kinda protrudes and theres a visible gap between the tank and the fairing(u know ,near the R sticker on the tank). So i jus want to know if there is any other place where you can mount the ballast..i thought of sticky tapes at first but dont know if it will last due to the vibrations while riding.

Do u guys have any suggestions?Isnt there anyone here who has fitted an hid in a karizma?pls help me guys. Thanks in advance.

But i wanted to know about the ballast unit although i dun understand why u hav fitted a relay bcoz my mechanic told me that since zma has a dc setup,it doesnt need relay?was he wrong? Btw can u please tell me how u hav attached the relay at that place ? Cuz i cant make that out in the pic.i could attach the ballast just lyk u hav attached the relay

Will work without relay, but fitting relay will make the electrical system better. DC setup not requiring relay is incorrect. For example if you use higher wattage bulb, you better install relay or your wire/sockets will heat up and get burned.
My car was running fine with 100 watts bulb without additional relay until one day I found out my sockets were completely burned out. I installed relay and never had any problems ever since.

Though HID runs on low watts (typically 35 watts). It does require some 20000 volts to ignite the bulb. I'd feel much better with a relay. Am no electrical expert and don't know how volts exactly plays into this equation, but like I said, I'd feel much better.

How much did fitting a relay on ur ZMA cost bro? any specifications for the relay? I want to fit one too.

and about the 20,000volts part. I dont think thats right. 20,000 can't be produced by the battery of a bike. correct me if I'm wrong.

I fitted relay on my car, My Zma is running on stock (everything).

Am planning to get one of these aftermarket complete Hid projector headlight unit for Zma sometime in the future. Not immediately. Anyway Relay set would cost anywhere between 150-500 depending on the quality. Am using roots (for cars). I think it was something like 300. Don't know if its available specifically for bikes. The main difference for cars I guess would be, everything comes in pairs (two headlights) and wiring are quiet long, so logically single one with short wiring should be cheaper. BTW I fitted them myself.

About the 20000 thing. Yup! thats correct. Hence the ballast. Just google on how HID works. .

Bro karizma comes with a full dc setup and its enough for a stock 35w bulb but if you wanna use higher WATS bulb like 100/90 or 130/100 its recommended to use a head light relay.

am using Minda Car relay and it comes with a clamp which can be fitted directly to the cowl. i don't think your ballast comes with any such clamp so you may have to make a custom one,

there is a series of bolts under the black frame which fixes the frame on the cowl, you can use any one of this to mount the ballast. In my case i fixed it on the last one because that part is well protected from dust and water.

Remove your front cowl ant inspect the part closely you can easily find the bolts.

which hid brand your using and how is the beam ?

Hey vineeth, thanks a lot 4 that, i will look into that 2day itself. I got a set of clamps with this ballast. So u mean that no drillin or anything of the fairing is neccesary to fix the ballast right?bcoz while googling i found one zma with a ballast secured inside the fairing by drilling a small hole in the fairing and using a screw 2 secure it(screw is visible frm outside).
I went for a chinese make hid kit 8000k,cost me rs.2000(spare parts readily availabld 2), . .with low beam normal halogen and high beam xenon. I was using philips cool blue 60w bulb bfore this but got fed up with it,hence changed. . . The light is just awesome, its like the road is lit by a tubelight . . . For once i can c the road properly when im driving in the night.

8000k is way too much of blue light. OVERKILL OVERKILL

Do you respect other riders on the road? Do u know how many accidents you be unkowingly causing?
And one more thing, ur visibility in rain/fog will almost be zero due to the high Kelvin temperature.
I would request you to use the High beam only on empty roads.

I personally prefer 4300k. for all weather rides.

Hey . . . Yeah i knw 8000k is too much but he didnt hav anything else.and yeah i dim the lights on 2 way roads . . .and another thing is that i very rarely go 4 night drives, atmost some 15 kms and that too are on village roads but just love the lighting .but i seriously doubt if its 8000k cuz it doesnt hav a blue tint.

Hey guys,1 more thing,i had recently upgraded my dead amco battery to a 9ah TATA GREEN battery. Although they say that its a maintanence free battery, when should i start routine battery checking?

Yea will post the pics soon. . . Btw i jus checked the box it came in and it says 55w halogen(low) and 35w hid 6000k(high).i guess the guy who sold me this mis read it. I will post the pics as soon as i finish with mounting this ballast in a proper place. . ,gonna do that 2day. . .
Btw will there be any problem if we do the normal water servicing with this thing?i mean, will the water seep into the ballast or something bcoz the svc guys actually use a jet 4 water servicing ri?

55w low beam??? whoa, AFAIK, i thought low beams on HID's were only the normal 35W. This is new to me. Probably my ignorance to technology which keeps changing every second day.

                            Just be careful while washing.

Regarding the battery, use it happily for one year, then think about checking.
