Default Honda Unicorn Suspension Issue

I bought unicorn last month..was fine for a week or so ..

Then i started to get back pain ...and suddenly rides were bumpy..

Took bike to a local service station and he adjusted chain ...said it was loose...

but still when i drive in bumpy road, i get back pain ...

Tried hard medium and soft ..but nothing seems to be of use.
in fact hard setting seems to be better.

I have a doubt that the rear shock is defective.
When i take it to service station, they dont even test ride bike and claim that there is nothing wrong with it.
I ask them to replace under warranty..but they say it is a huge process and may take weeks.

I took bike to 2-3 local mechanics and they tried to push the rear and notice that bike does not come back to normal immediately. They say that spring has lost its tension.

Please help me in this regard.
I need to confirm if the rear shock had lost its tension and get it replaced.
Also can you suggest any good mechanics in chennai ?

Few questions for you:
1. Is it your first bike?
2. Is the ride uncomfortable on smoother surface too?
3. Do you get back pain riding on the smoother roads too or it is there only when you ride on the bumpy surface?
4. Are you overweight by any chance (no offence)
5. Did you take the bike to another Honda service station?
6. Did you try to ride a different bike and still got the same back pain?

Maybe, the answer to your query is hidden in these questions.

Query approved.

I took the bike to another service station. I asked the mechanic there to ride the bike and see for himself about the problem .

He rode the bike and said front fork is loose. He said he'll adjust that and took the bike inside. Came back after 5 minutes with the bike and he rode it again and gave it to me.

I rode the bike and to my excitement it was like how it felt during the first week.

Local street side mechanics were not able to locate the issue even after driving the bike. Instead they said front suspension is excellent but rear is damaged.

Earlier I had taken to two other honda service centres but they were also not able to rectify this. Atleast they said rear suspension is fine.

Thanks Sunilg for your time.

Good that it has solved ur problem but I don't know how the front fork contribute to back pain..both Unicorn n dazzler hav this issue of hard suspension but it subsides as days pass by...my experience

In fact I was also very doubtful that the problem could be with the front suspension.

The front suspension was very soft and sensitive. If I applied front brake, the bike was bouncing for some 3-4 times. The service person tightened it and fixed it up. Now the suspension is much better and I dont feel any strain when driving over pot holes.

hey raj

Even i have faced the same problem.

IT is a fact that unicorn rear suspension is stiff ie overdamped.
After being pressed it takes time to come up bcos the rebound damping is high, not because the spring has lost tension.

for that matter i find that most hmsi vehicles have a stiff suspension from factory like activa, shine, uni.

stiff suspension limits wheel travel ,it causes jerks but increases life of the suspension

i wonder when indian manufacturers will give us shocks with adj. compression & rebound damping. till then we will have to live with it. nothing much can be done.

but i doubt how front suspension caused u back pain. i think it must be bottoming out due to lack of oil.

anyway how are u feeling now with ur bike?

You are right, the front suspension was bottoming out.

I think the service person tightened it. He did not add any oil.

Now I am feeling very comfortable with the bike.

see if there is such an issue then the delear has to change it as for the rear mono shockers there is a 3 years warranty which i guess no one knows about it. i learnt this when i myself was a loyal customer for honda for 5 years. having 2 honda unicorns. one normal and the other one sports

hi guys,

I have the same exact problem. I have owned a bike 3 years back prior to buying a unicorn. i never had back pain issues.. backpain issues started from the day i bought Unicorn but i thought it's because of my back. Recently a friend of mine bought an avenger and i rode it for a long time and never had any back issues.

I have not reported about this to SVC yet. i ride on the smooth roads all the time..

The suspension settings is set to medium.
guys any suggestions to get rid of this issue?
