This is my first post here to Hi to everyone. I've been a regular visitor to Xbhp for the past few years, however somehow I never registered. I've been going through some of the topics and it seems that members here really do go the extra length to help each other out.
Anyways, coming to the point. I need help in a project of my own. I've a CBZ which has been going really strong all these years. However, now I feel that I need an engine rebuild. But instead of doing that, I intend to replace the whole engine and plonk a complete Karizma engine in the CBZ. I had a karizma earlier and plonking a zma engine in the CBZ would really make it a blast to ride. For changing the engine, I would have to change the electricals along with the carb and CDI. I don't think any other changes would be needed. I can source everything, except, the pièce de résistance, a complete engine. Here I need your help. I've no idea how to go about sourcing a whole karizma engine. I found one in Meerut but the dealer was asking 20K for the engine while you can find old Karizmas for 30K! It's almost certain that if I get an old engine, I would have to put in a new cylinder kit and work on it to make it work as per my expectations. I request you to please share any info about where can I find an old Karizma engine. Even if I get an accidental/abandoned Karizma in a dilapidated state, that would work too as I could take any parts that I need from it provided I get it at Junk prices. I would appreciate guys who've done engine swaps share their thoughts on this. Thanks in advance. |

Good question. The answer: Because I kept a zma for 2 years and everything about it disappointed me, except the engine. The engine was the only part of the bike I really liked. I was always unsatisfied (having never loved anything else about the bike) and therefore sold it some time back after incurring a huge loss.
(Now pls. don't ask me why I feel zma was a disappointment. I don't want to derail the thread from the topic.) |

then rather than selling bike, you should have used engine in the cbz.
if you go on to buy each and every engine part for karizma, it can go above 25 k.thats how manufacturers price spares. i guess 20k for engine was cool price. Else why dont you contact JOEL from banglore. He is on XBHP. He has engine kits for CBZ, karizma. he can provide you with all parts you need that would lead to an even more powerful karizma or cbz . You check with him what is available with him and what he can do. Last edited by worrisomebear; 12-15-2010 at 07:07 PM. |

Buying each and every part is not workable, not to mention quite painful. Also, they don't sell engine blocks like that, at least the dealerships around me don't. 20K for the engine (that too old) + 4K for the Carb (approx.) + 2.5 K for the CDI (approx.) + at least 2.5K for electricals and unforeseen expenses (approx.) = 29K. While I could find a 04 zma for around 30K and get all the parts I need from it. That's why I didn't get that engine in meerut. Thanks for the Joel tip. I'll surely be contacting him. However, I am not looking for kits as mentioned in the original post, I am looking for the complete engine, or at least the lower half, I can always get a new cylinder kit or a head. Do you think Joel might have one?? |

When you do a rebuild go for new engines that gives you lesser headaches. Even if you made a mistake, its easier to identify when things are relatively new parts, otherwise you don't know where to begin troubleshooting.
Now another point is, I hope you checked the mount points of engine between CBZ & ZMA. Also you might need to change the RR unit. If you need the entire engine, approach HH & buy a new one, atleast that's what I'd do. Last but not the least, have an unlimited budget to start the project because, these are to be done without a budget constraint. After all, there's no point building a motorcycle & finally atleast one face says, "is that all"? All the best

HH doesn't sell complete new engines like that, at least the dealerships around me have said no. Ultimately, the primary question still remains. How do I get hold of a complete zma engine? Last edited by Bikerzen; 12-17-2010 at 02:42 PM. Reason: typo |

1) Buy a used Zma 2) Swap the suspension, swing-arm and all the other parts you like from your current CBZ onto the CBZma 3) Sell the CBZ. Overhaul worn out parts on the CBZma with the money. Overall you would be saving 10K + a lot of headaches ![]() Ride safe. Ride hard.

Cool one Buddy, this ONE was my wildest dreams, My Age old Project Which I could never Pursue. Anyways All the best to you and your Hy-breed machine.
Please Post the Pics once the Project is finished... As you said A Zma bike Would cost 30 Gs.. So why don't you buy a reasonabley good condition Zma use all the parts that you can use on CBZ and Sell rest of'em to Scrap yard.. so make some money out of it. and if you are buying an engine Block alone, their is a Risk, you will never be able Judge the condition of the Machine as you can not Run it, to test it... But my Suggestion is Please Please Preserve the Classic stock Looks of CBZ Don't do any Silly mods they Look Ugly.its a disrespect for that Machine... I'm going the the other way around I'm Converting My 2nd ZMA to CBZ Cosmetically...
