Thread: Pulsar 220F Air Filter Rubber cap removal

Hi, I by chance removed the rubber covering which covers the entrace of the Air Filter below the seat, the power has increased significantly, and so has the sound.

Now this has raised 2 questions for me for which I will need you guys's help

1.) The rubber padding offered in the stock does not have any sort of mesh that blocks dust from entering the filter element, Why is it out in the first place?

2.) Is it going to affect the bike in anyway? because the mileage seems fine, nothing has changed.. It has been 2 months since I did this so that I'd be exposed for a pretty long time to see any ill effect

Is it good or bad? IF good , what is good about it and If bad , likewise ??

P.S. I have not disposed of the rubber pad, I can put it back depending on your views on it.

i would like to try it once then

the rubber is there to stop water and other foreign body from entering the air filter chamber. you may notice that the intake opening is much larger now, this may, may result in any thing going inside.

otherwise i think there is no other ill affect.

i also used this trick in my p200 and sound was awesome grt but only on high rpm. but just placed again because i dont want to ruin its air filter property by entering foreign elements.

i think by removing decibal killer is also another option to produce strange noise.
Masters please guide is that correct option or it may harm silencer.

u mean the snorkel type thingie under seat?. I think its there to suppress air intake noise. And there is no power gain, its the sound that makes u feel like so. I dont know if its bad for bike to remove it, but if u want power+sound, i suggest a k&n.

The object you are refering to is called a snorkel. It is there for a purpose, ie: to prevent water entering the air filter box during rains or washing. Most people say the seat is on top of the filter box, so no water will get in, but that is not true. The seat does not form a seal or anything, otherwise where would the air for the filter box come from.

If you remove it, the intake sound of the bike changes because of change in airflow. Water WILL enter, and your filter element will not do what it is supposed to. Water creates all sorts of problems for your filter: it washes away the oil on the element, it wets it, it clogs it, it mixes with the filtered dirt and forms grime etc....

Whatever is on your bike the designer put it there for a purpose, if you remove/modify it, you should have something else that can cover its job.

Removing the rubber cap won't make any significant changes to your bike, as the cap is meant only to protect the air filter box in wet conditions especially while washing the bike. It also helps in reducing the sound of the bike making it more silent.

But remove the cap only if you are looking for good loud and soft sound (its not annoying like other separately available exhausts).
Performance of the bike wont change in any cases, as removing the cap does not increase the air intake.
Doesn't affect the air filter, but cleaning the air filter at intervals is a good practice.
Always put back the rubber cap in wet conditions.

Works best with bajaj pulsar bikes.. Using a pulsar without the cap since last few years..
A good practice would be to keep the rubber cap beneath the seat, so as to use it whenever needed.



P.S. If you are looking for performance get a K&N filter and change the petrol intake.

I experienced a smoothened ride on my p150 dtsi digital. I thought the combustion is leaner so reverted back to stock. The bike did radiate less heat.

You are going to loose your filter very soon .... Monsoon will be the time.Get it placed back.
