Thread: Tube size slightly larger than original

Hi All,

I ride an Apache RTR 160 Refresh. Recently, I faced a puncture where I was forced to change the tube. The puncture guy put in a 18" tube saying that he currently didn't have a 17" one and he would exchange it later. He did exchange and the current tube is having the profile 100/90-17 on the 90/90-17 tire. Is it ok to have this tube profile? I feel that the bike's handling is not good as it was before and wobbles lightly.

I'm ready to go for a 90/90-17 if there is absolutely no 'fix' for this 'issue'. Thanks in advance

Mismatched tyre and tube are not recommended. The tube has to be an exact fit to the tire once inflated. If it is under/over sized as compared to the tyre, the walls of tyre won't be evenly touching the tube, thus resulting in wobble, and perhaps a tube burst at high speed. Change it ASAP. The mechanic, for saving 150-200 rs, is playing with your life.

A tube has no profile of its own, I hope/think you're talking about the tire. In which case...a tire's profile will change quite considerably over the course of its life so that's nothing to be overly worried about. As for the wobble issue, check if the tire's beading is consistent around the rim. This is the most common cause for wobble's.
