Default Help : Enfield coil burn

Hi all,

I recently bought a 2008 model Enfield Standard(bullet 350).
This weekend i went on a tour and while returning suddenly it started jurking.
It always jurked beyond speed of 40 and battery got suddenly weak.
Once stopped it did not start again. I also noticed, compressor was not working, as on half kick pressure did not build up which is the usual behavior.

I took it to a mechanic n he says the coils on the left side of engine (in big metallic box) have burned and needed to be rewired. And he asked for a lot of money - rs 1600(rs 400 for each wire).

Have anybody else had this problem. Is the mechanic too costly(i guess so)... Is it the actual reason or he is just trying to make money out of me?Please share your views and experiences.

Thanks in advance.

Thats bloody expensive for rewiring. Even the new coil will cost somewhere around 1200rs. (Not sure with the figures)

Get a new coil, don't rewire until its absolutely necessary.

i would suggest you to get the rectifier+regulator checked(under seat), am 90% sure you shall find the culprit... there are very less changes of coil (in the clutch chamber) getting burnt... and the situation you mentioned in which the problem occurred surely indicates rectifier at fault..
