Smile Yamaha RXG135 : Suggestions for Improving Sound

Hello Guru's,

I have a RXG 1996. Sound is very low. So far cleaned the silencer couple of times and even changed the bend pipe. Still no luck. Mech recommends to cut the silencer which will give louder sound. This solution comes with "Conditions Apply" ** marks - Mileage will decrease.

As per what I've read and understood from site there are 2 solutions :

A) Cut the Muffler
B) Replace Muffler with RX100's.

which one of above impacts lowest on the mileage ?

cutting the silencer or cutting the core mate ??
yeah if you cut the core only then you can get the sound you expect AFAIK and mileage will decrease cos the silencer becomes free flow

probably trying cutting 25% and check the sound, and cut accordingly.

RXGs have catalytic converter..You can remove them or better still go for a RX100 exhaust.

^^^ Making any changes to a 2 stroke exhaust will have profound effect on the engine performance. No two ways about that. The problem is whether those changes will yield the right type of results.

Your mechanic has suggested shortening the length, but does he know what effect that has on the scavenging of exhaust gases? How different lengths of exhaust system affect power delivery? If not, then its may be best not to go down that road.

I would suggest that the best you could do would be what @psr is suggesting and opt for a RX100 exhaust.

The rear end you'll find the core, either you can cut a bit and check for the loudness. Or buy brand new RX/RXG Silencer and fit on to the bike. After few hundred kms the beat/exhaust note would set in as the carbon deposits accumulate.

Replace it with RX100 silencer, this is also a good option provided if you are lucky to get decently maintained one from the market.

Kindly don't associate words like 'mileage' any near to RX series, you are insulting a performance bike.

1996 RXG came with Catalytic? I'm afraid not. The later to 2000 RX series model came with catalytic converter (cat con) silencer. Guess it weighs about 10kgs.

OT:- I've brand new chrome silencer on my bike (of RXG/135 series), yet to come across RX100 silencer to acquire which I'm long to.

One of the popular mod done those days was to take out the core...ie., the tube at the center of exhaust muffler, which will give you more sound and will make the bike rev quicker....at the expense of the engine.
