Default Impacts of Riding style on Mileage of Unicorn

Guys!

Have some problem with my uni , not exactly a problem..but I just need some info..Gear shifting : at which rpm u guys usually shift the gears??..I do it at 4-4.5, some times at 5..for which I get a mileage of 48-50..but I have read that at 5.5 rpm (for unicorn) shifting gears is ideal! (point at which it produces max torque)

There is this airport road for a stretch of 4 kms near my office..where i rip my uni till 100-110..Lets call this power ride , during this ride I shift gears at high rpm's 5-5.5 and I seem to have a drastic mileage drop..so, I wasnt sure whether someone fiddled with my petrol / it was bcoz of my ride..went today to AHS and got my uni checked up..he did a test drive and according to that, it was giving 60kmpl! WTF :O..i was shocked..but the way he rode it was completely different..he was changing gears at very less rpm..upshifting whenever possible, trying to remain on higher gear even at at some lesser speed and was riding at speeds just above where the engine doesnt make noise!..I asked him to let me ride.so that he will know the way I ride it and was shifting at 4.5-5 and using engine breaking while downshifting ( did not blip while downshifting)..he even changed the idle rpm to around 1..while it was supposed to be somewhere around 1.4..contradiction?..

The point is do I have to ride like he did to attain such mileage..at a point, I felt I was riding the right way and pretty happy about it..but now I'm confused!..I told him about my after office ride..and he told me that for 4kms of such ride..mileage would drop to 40kpml! :O :O :O for 4 kms of such ride, will that happen?? or is he exaggerating??

Suggestions n Views are welcome will correct and improve my riding

ideal for what ? mileage ?

for getting maximum mileage, shift at an rpm level such that the engine just about avoids knocking.

^^ hehe sorry mate..forgot to mention..ideal for the wear and tear of engine..yeah shifting like you said is what the Service Center guy had suggested me..but What are the impacts of shifting at higher RPM?? like..how much mileage drop will be there?? Effects on Engine??

no idea about the figures, but the higher rpm you attain before shifting gears, the lesser the mileage would be as more fuel is being burnt in the low gear.
The japanese engines are extremely good. Nothing to worry there

For FE, the gear change may not be at hight RPM like 5.5K, it can be as low as 3K. For FE,
1. Ride in 5th gear as much as possible
2. 45-65 kmph speeds as much as possible
3. Between 4-6K RPM as much as possible

I have no idea about FE of newer versions of Unicorn, but I know guys are milking 50-55kmpl even with 2004 Models even now ...easily in city drive conditions.

i own a Unicorn too, i get mileage of around 50-55 kmpl..
i usually drive @ 60-70.. sometimes i go up to 80-100 but not much often..
i also used to drive like the way you do.. but it did impact my mileage..
then my friend suggested me to drive at lower speeds like 60-70..
shift gears at lower RPM (i think it decreases the engine's wear & tear.. i put my top gear on 40-45).. & i have noticed the change in my bike's mileage..
also if you want a good mileage from your bike.. i suggest you take good care of her by having your bike serviced at regular intervals, change engine oil, lubricating of your bike's chain & other such stuff...

hope this helps..
ride safe.. cheers
